Carson City man faces felony charge of failing to register as a sex offender
A Carson City man was arrested for failing to register as a tier 2 sex offender.
Leon Gene Rutherford, 30, who's address on the arrest report was listed as being in the 700 block of Silver Oak Drive in Carson City, faces the felony charge. His bail has been set at $2,500.
According to a Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, deputies responded to a domestic dispute between a man and woman at an apartment on Silver Oaks Drive at 9:31 p.m. on June 11.
On arrival, deputies contacted the subjects who were involved in the dispute, including Rutherford. According to the arrest report, Rutherford had broken the glass to a fire hydrant outside of the apartment in anger over a dispute with a female. The female, however, claimed the dispute was a verbal argument, according to the arrest report.
Deputies ran warrant checks on the female, and she had a warrant out of Reno Justice Court. Rutherford's name was ran through a local record and warrant check and was found to be a Tier 2 sex offender out of California, according to the arrest report.
Rutherford advised deputies he was registered through the Lyon County Sheriff's Office as a sex offender and had been released from that jail one day prior.
Deputies researched Rutherford's release from jail in Lyon County. The sheriff's office there reported Rutherford had been released from jail on June 9, at 4:30 a.m. and had listed the address of 20 College Parkway in Carson City.
Deputies returned to the Silver Oaks Drive apartment and contacted Rutherford. They informed him he was in violation. Rutherford advised he wasn't released at 4:30 a.m. on June 9, but at 6 a.m. and showed the deputy his Lyon County Sheriff's Office jail release report. The release report in Rutherford's possession said he was released on June 9 at 6 a.m. and his address was listed as 20 College Parkway, according to the arrest report.
