Traffic backed up due to chase, traffic stop involving multiple armed motorcyclists

UPDATE 3:11 p.m.: Dispatch announced the scene is clear.
However, northbound traffic in the valley is still closed by NHP.

Traffic is backed up as of 2:45 p.m. on I-580 near Washoe Valley following a chase and traffic stop involving multiple armed motorcyclists.

A chase began within Carson City jurisdiction involving a motorcyclist who refused to stop and allegedly tried to run deputies off the road, according to dispatch. NHP was called once they entered NHP’s jurisdiction who appear to have taken over the investigation which ended near Bellevue.

As of 2:52 p.m., detectives from Carson City have also been deployed to the incident.

Traffic is backed up at least three miles according to a deputy on scene.

While investigating the incident in Washoe, it was reported that multiple large groups of about 50-80 heavily armed motorcyclists entered Carson City, heading towards the scene.

An injured Siberian Husky that was saved from drowning by South Lake Tahoe Police officers and others after being found in the freezing cold lake water Saturday, sadly died later Sunday at a local veterinarian hospital. CARSON CITY — Initial claims for unemployment insurance totaled just over 10,500 in January, down 860 claims, or 7.6 percent compared to last January. Compared to December of 2019, initial claims fell by 12.3 percent, or 1,480 fewer claims, according to figures released Thursday by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

STATELINE — There was an exciting end to last Presidents’ Day Weekend for Dorothy Boone of Temple, Texas as she hit the Three Card Poker progressive jackpot at Harveys Lake Tahoe on Monday night, Feb. 17, resulting in a win of $1,340,518.

PAHRUMP — On the same day that Democrats across the state were helping to choose their party’s presidential nominee, Elizabeth Herring sat in the back of the ballroom of the Pahrump Nugget and smiled as Nevada Republicans in the room cheered for four more years of President Donald Trump.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders notched a decisive victory in Nevada’s presidential caucus on Saturday, cementing his frontrunner status and paving a clear road heading into South Carolina’s primary next week and Super Tuesday soon after.

Vigilante, Old West, Law and Order, Peace Keepers

The Virginia City Silent Riders are a group of volunteers who represent the western frontier which was often a dangerous and lawless place. When justice needed to be served, there wasn't always a Sheriff and Judge. Instead, there were honorable and righteous men and women who stepped in to deliver swift justice. These groups were known as 'vigilance committees', and they existed across the west.

Sierra Lutheran High School junior Annalynn Mueller tied for first and freshman Riley McHenry placed second in the local round of the Fleet Reserve Association’s (FRA) Americanism Essay Contest.

Crowds at the Carson City caucuses were decidedly smaller this year thanks to the new early voting caucusing allowed by recent legislation.
