Carson City weekend arrests: Woman found living in vacant home jailed for burglary

A 34-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday for suspicion of felony burglary and other offenses, according to a Carson City sheriff's deputy booking report.
Shalese Fanter was taken into custody at 11:24 a.m. at a Kit Sierra Way residence. She was also arrested for suspicion of unlawful occupancy, a gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence.
According to the booking report, a sheriff's deputy responded to a residence for a report of a residential burglary with suspicious circumstances. The anonymous reporting party advised Carson City Sheriff's dispatch that a female was seen leaving the location carrying a box. The reporting party advised the home is vacant and possibly abandoned.
Dispatch further advised multiple calls for service at the location for similar circumstances. The deputy arrived at the location and observed the yard was overgrown with weeds and debris. There was a vehicle parked in the driveway next to the residence.
The officer observed fresh footprints in the dirt of the driveway leading to the backyard and observed a bicycle leaning against an open gate. The officer observed a path cut around grown trees in the backyard of the residence, according to the report.
The officer checked the backyard and observed a small out building and a camper trailer. Both structures were not secure and the doors were open. The deputy checked the outbuilding and could tell that someone had made a small makeshift camp inside the shed. The officer observed blankets and rotten food strewn around the shed, the report states.
The deputy checked the small camper trailer where the door had been removed and could see someone had also been camping inside the trailer. The officer observed bedding on the floor and an area that had been previously used as a small fire pit or warming fire area, according to the report.
The officer checked the exterior of the main entrance. On the door on the east side of the home was a realtor style lock box and a seal on the door stating the property was vacant and no entry. The officer observed the seal had been broken. The deputy checked the west side of the residence and observed a sliding glass door, which had a stick wedged against it and it was unlocked and unable to open due to the stick.
The officer could tell by looking through the sliding door that it was full of flies and could see food on the floor. Some of the food appeared to be fresh and other food was rotten and covered in flies, the report states.
The deputy observed a barbecue grill in the center of the living room and bedding on the floor around it. The officer entered the residence and checked for any persons and located, in the rear bedroom, a female identified as Shalese Fanter. She stated she was given permission to be inside the residence by her boyfriend's brother, who, she said, was thinking about buying the residence.
The officer asked how long she had been living in the residence. She stated for several weeks and claimed she lived in the residence with several subjects. She was advised she was under arrest. The officer conducted a wants and warrant check on the woman, and was advised she was on supervision with the Department of Alternative Sentencing with a condition to obey all laws, the report states.
The officer took photos of the residence and forwarded a report to Carson City Code Enforcement so the property could be taken care of as a nuisance/condemned property. Bail: $23,637.
In other arrests:
— A 44-year-old Spring Creek Nevada man, Braden Robert Penny, was arrested Sunday for a felony failure to appear warrant issued out of the Fourth Judicial District Court and a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant. Bail: $16,000.
— A 54-year-old man was arrested May 4 in the 1000 block of North Carson Street for a misdemeanor warrant out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.
— A 28-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 3:03 a.m. for suspicion of DUI and for driving without headlights. According to the booking report, an officer patrolling the area of William and Stewart streets observed a vehicle without its headlight on.
The officer activated their overhead lights and made a traffic stop. The officer informed the woman about the traffic stop and asked if she had been drinking. The woman replied she had two drinks, both which were vodka shots. She agreed to a standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. She provided a preliminary breath test with a result of .247 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. She agreed to an evidentiary blood draw. Bail: $1,209.
— A 55-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 6:45 a.m. for a misdemeanor DUI warrant issued March 12, 2021 out of Sparks Township Court. Bail: $1,022.
— A 42-year-old Fernley woman was arrested Saturday, 1:45 a.m. for suspicion of DUI. According to the booking report, a deputy observed a vehicle make a left hand turn from South Carson Street to East Musser, nearly striking the curb when making the turn and then stopping in the middle of the road after passing the officer in their marked patrol vehicle.
The officer made a u-turn and pulled behind the vehicle as it continued traveling east on Musser Street. The officer activated their overhead emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop.
The deputy made contact with the driver and informed her of the stop. While speaking the officer could see she had watery eyes and had slurred speech. The officer asked the woman if she would conduct field sobriety tests. The officer observed clues of impairment on the tests. She provided a preliminary breath test of .223. She was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail she agreed to an evidentiary blood draw. Bail: $1,137.
