Carson City weekend arrests: Man booked for eluding, other offenses after vehicle pursuit
A 23-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of felony eluding a police officer and other offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Jaden Alexander Corder of Carson City was taken into custody at 4:03 p.m. following an investigation. He was also booked for the following alleged misdemeanor offenses: Reckless driving, hit and run, unregistered vehicle and no insurance.
According to the booking report, a deputy observed a vehicle stopped at a red light in the number one northbound lane on North Carson Street. When the northbound signals changed to green, the deputy watched and heard the vehicle perform a burnout through the intersection as it began travel.
The officer observed the driver continue to accelerate and shift gears as it picked up speed, going extremely fast. The officer activated their red and blue emergency lights and siren and entered the intersection to attempt to stop the vehicle.
As the officer turned north onto North Carson Street, the vehicle was going at a high rate of speed, crossing the intersection of Hot Springs Road.
The officer continued to follow and the vehicle as it continued to shift gears and continued to accelerate up North Carson Street. The officer accelerate at a high rate of speed to catch the vehicle, which continued to increase its speed and rate a distance from the deputy, the report states.
The deputy saw the Mustang pass on a vehicle, on the right shoulder, causing a large cloud of dust to be kicked into the air. As the deputy approached College Parkway, the vehicle turned right east onto College Parkway. The deputy followed and observed the vehicle continuing to travel at a high rate of speed and turn south onto Imperial Way. The officer turned onto Imperial and did not see the vehicle, the report states.
The officer continued on to Gardengate Way and saw several people waving their arms and pointing down the street. The officer was able to see the Mustang continuing to travel east on Gardengate Way. The officer observed the vehicle pull to the right side of the street on Northgate. The officer exited their vehicle and performed a high risk traffic stop with another deputy, the report states.
The driver was identified as Jaden Corder. He was placed into custody for reckless driving and eluding. He was read his Miranda rights to which he waived and stated he would speak. During the conversation, the man admitted to driving recklessly. It was also discovered that Corder had also crashed into a vehicle on Gardengate Way when turning from Imperial Way. A passenger in the vehicle was injured during the collision, striking his head against the passenger window.
He was checked by Carson City Fire paramedics and released from the scene without charges. Bail for Corder: $20,000.
In other arrests:
— A 38-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery.
According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to a domestic report at a residence. Officers arrived on scene when the suspect opened the door violently and said they could enter. The man was noticeably upset. He stated he should ask the victim and he continued to clean up the house. The suspect refused to talk to a deputy as he continued to do dishes, the report states.
The pair began arguing over a baby's pacifier, where the victim said the man started throwing all her stuff around the house looking for it. The woman stated she went into the man's room and starting throwing his stuff around. It escalated, where she said the man grabbed her by the hand, scratched her hand and then she fell to the floor while holding the baby. A deputy later took photos of the injury.
A deputy spoke with the man and asked him what happened. He stated he was looking for the pacifier for the baby and while looking for it, the victim became upset. He stated she went into his room and threw stuff around and he went to stop her. He stated there was nothing physical. The deputy asked about the injury to the woman's hand. He said there was none. He was asked if he knew if she had a pre-existing injury and he stated there was none. He was placed under arrest for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $1,137.
— A 41-year-old Fallon man was arrested Saturday for a misdemeanor outside agency warrant issued out of Walker River. Bail: $645 cash.
— A 36-year-old man, Paden Babcock, was arrested Friday for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $2,500.
Meanwhile, a female who was with him, Lacey Sexton, 32, was also arrested for suspicion of possession of an anti-theft device, giving false identification to avoid prosecution, a felony warrant out of Sparks Justice Court, possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $25,000 for the warrant out of Sparks Justice Court and $10,000 for the other alleged offenses.
— A 30-year-old Carson City woman, Haily Ellis March, was arrested Saturday for a felony warrant alleging possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $2,500.
— A 44-year-old man was arrested Saturday for violation of suspended sentence. Bail: $1,000 cash.
— A 57-year-old Mound House man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and harassment. According to the booking report, a deputy was dispatched to attempt to locate a possible road rage incident where the reporting party was being followed by another vehicle. Dispatch gave an updated location on I-580 northbound and told the victim to get off the freeway at Fairview Drive. A sergeant and officer were in the area and located the vehicles.
The sergeant pulled in front of the suspect vehicle and activated their lights, where there was a male driver with his phone up and lights on as if he was taking a picture of the reporting party's vehicle, the report states.
Both vehicles came to a stop in the parking lot of 1880 Fairview Drive. The sergeant and a deputy separately contacted the driver of the suspect vehicle and the reporting party.
An officer made contact with the victim vehicle and observed a woman who was visibly shaking and crying. She said she and her passenger were in the parking lot of a restaurant when they were nearly hit by the suspect vehicle driver.
They left the parking lot and went north on Carson Street and the suspect vehicle continued to follow them, she said. They completed a U-turn and the suspect vehicle attempted to hit them, continuing to follow, the reporting party told the deputy.
She said they got on I-580 on ramp and completed another U-turn at Topsy Lane, with the suspect still following them. They got onto the freeway where she stated at one point she was driving 95 mph and the suspect was on her right bumper. They filled out a statement form for citizens arrest for harassment, the report states.
A deputy made contact with the driver of the suspect vehicle. As the deputy was speaking they could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the man's breath and person. The man had slow, thick and slurred speech, the report states. The officer asked why he had his phone out and the man said he was trying to record the vehicle as it was following him. The officer pointed out that he was behind the car and he stated "they passed me," the report states.
The man driving the suspect vehicle showed signs of impairment during standardized field sobriety tests. The man was asked if he would be willing to submit to a prelimary breath test. The man said he would. When the officer pulled out the PBT, the man refused and said he would not. The man was read the implied consent in which he chose to complete a breath test. He provided tests with results of .148 and .144. Bail for the alleged DUI was listed at $1,137 and bail for alleged harassment was $1,137.
— A 41-year-old Reno woman, Stefani Chapa, was arrested Friday in the 3200 block of Market Street for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance (meth) and violation of parole. Bail: $2,500 for possession and a no bail hold for parole violation.
— A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of violation of a suspended sentence. The man was on Department of Alternative Sentencing with a no alcohol or drugs clause. He was grossly intoxicated and uncooperative. Bail: $1,000.
— A 43-year-old woman, Destinee Green, was arrested Saturday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI second, felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $2,500 for possession and $2,500 for suspected second DUI.
— Two men were arrested Sunday after a battery was reported at a North Carson Street bar. According to the report, when deputies arrived on scene the suspects were seen fleeing. Deputies chased the men, caught and detained them. One suspect, who was 20, was intoxicated and provided a preliminary breath test of .178. He was booked for obstructing and underage drinking. Bail $1,137. The other suspect was booked for two counts battery, making false statements, obstructing an officer. Bail: $1,137.
