Carson City pair jailed after baby found severely bruised; fentanyl, other drugs located in residence

A man and woman were arrested Saturday for multiple alleged felony offenses including child endangerment causing substantial bodily harm, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Clarence Tobin Burnett, 32, and Alexandria Nicole Villanueva, 27, both of Carson City, were taken into custody following an investigation in which their 9-month-old son was found to have severe bruising while living in an apartment found to have several drugs within reach of the child, including fentanyl.

Each were also booked for suspicion of child neglect and endangerment, possession of a controlled substance, using a controlled substance in the presence of a child, two counts gross misdemeanor possession of brass knuckle and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Burnett also had a misdemeanor outside agency misdemeanor warrant for his arrest.

According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were sent to the 200 block of Allouette Way regarding a man who reportedly made suicidal comments about wanting to kill himself and a his 9-month old baby.

Officers arrived at the front door and made contact with the man, asking if he wanted to hurt himself. The man said no. When deputies asked where his son was, the man told deputies upstairs. Deputies asked to see the child and the man escorted them upstairs.

Officers learned that text messages had been sent alerting the mother that the child was in danger. Officers were told the child's mother checked herself into a facility and was detoxing off fentanyl. Officers later learned the facility didn't accept her and that she returned home and was inside her vehicle asking for help, the arrest report states.

While speaking with the father of the child upstairs, who was holding the child in his arms, he was asked by deputies to see the text messages. He agreed and handed his cell phone to a deputy where the deputy observed several messages indicating he was going to kill his son and himself, the arrest report states. The man stated he wanted to get help for his addictions.

Deputies conducted a safety sweep of the apartment and located a "tooter straw" with suspected heroin residue on a sink in the upstairs bathroom, along with several pieces of aluminum foil that had burn marks. Also observed was a white, chalky substance that looked like a crushed-up pill on a dresser.

Department of Child and Family Services was contacted due to the child's living environment. During the safety sweep deputies could smell a strong odor of urine in the child's bedroom and found a soiled diaper on the floor, as well as the window sill holding a soiled bottle of milk that started to form bubbles due to it sitting out for so long. There was a cat litter box next to the bathroom filled with old cat urine and feces and in the master bedroom there was a used diaper on the floor.

CCSO investigating deputies applied for and were granted a search warrant of the apartment. Deputies located the following:

— A purple tooter straw with suspected heroin inside next to a metal rod in the upstairs bathroom

— 4 pieces of foil with burn marks next to the master bed on the floor

— 1 piece of foil with burn marks on the dresser next to the master bedroom

— 2 purple tooter straws on the dresser

— Suspected fentanyl on the dresser

— Suspected fentanyl in a metal bowl on a nightstand in the master bedroom

— a bottle of 15 Adderall pills at the bottom portion of the nightstand

— A piece of foil with burn marks next to the night stand

— A baby binky blanket next to 4 pieces of burnt foil on the ground

— A metal container with suspected drug residue on the kitchen counter

— A black cell phone for evidence

— 4 pieces of burned foil in a hole in the wall in the bathroom

— 2 pair of brass knuckles

Deputies note that the distance between the floor and an open bottle of Cycclobenzaprine was approximately 11 inches and the distance between the floor and Adderall was also 11 inches. The distance from the floor to the top of the night stand where the suspected fentanyl was was approximately 20 inches.

The baby was evaluated where the following was reported:

— Severe diaper rash on his buttocks

— Approximately 2-inch bruise on his right buttock

— A cut on the bottom of his left foot

— Strangulation mark around his right calf

— A bruise on his chest above the left nipple

— Red marks on the left side of his torso

— A bruise on the right buttock.

Due to the conditions of the house and both parents being heavy drug users, the child had immediate reach to several medications and illegal drugs, the report states There was severe bruising on the child's body, which led to the arrest of both parents. Bail for Burnett, $41,015; Bail for Villanueva, $40,000.
