Cold weather and some snow expected for Carson City through Friday
A cold front moving into the Sierra and Western Nevada tonight may bring some snow to Carson City late tonight and into Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
The storm system has begun to move into the Sierra and Western Nevada, bringing gusty winds to the Carson City area. Widespread snow is expected in the Sierra with snow amounts of 3 to 6 inches for the Lake Tahoe Basin and 1 to 2 inches for Western Nevada including Carson City, southern Lyon County and Douglas County.
Snow may produce slick roads for the Friday morning commute for Carson City and Reno. Temperatures will remain below normal through the weekend with highs in the 30s across the Sierra and Western Nevada, according to the weather service.
In the Sierra, motorists should be prepared for chain and snow tire controls through Friday morning. For areas east of Fallon and Lovelock along Highway 50 and Interstate 80, several inches of snow is expected late tonight into Friday.
