Carson City sheriff's deputies make drug, DUI arrests over weekend

A 48-year-old woman was arrested Saturday for suspicion of felony furnishing a controlled substance in a jail facility and misdemeanor domestic battery, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Mureen Elizabeth Seljestad was taken into custody at 8:06 p.m. According to the arrest report, deputies arrested the woman following a domestic battery investigation.

During intake search of the woman at jail, a sergeant pulled the pockets of the woman's pajamas inside out where there was a visible cloud of a white powdery substance that came out of the right pocket. The substance tested positive for cocaine. Due to the woman allegedly bringing the controlled substance into a jail facility she was booked for suspicion of felony furnishing a controlled substance into a jail facility and misdemeanor domestic battery. Bail: $8,137.

In other arrests:
— A 40-year-old man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of possession of cocaine, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Alejandro Flores Herrera was taken into custody at 7:56 a.m. in the 2000 block of North Lompa Lane.

According to the booking report, officers responded to the 2000 block of North Lompa Lane for a report of a court order violation. The suspect, who had a temporary protection order against him, was allegedly knocking on the door of the woman who had the order against him. The reporting party advised the man said he was going to break open the door and is known to carry a handgun.

While en route, deputies were advised the man left in a tan vehicle. A deputy arrived on scene and observed the vehicle pull out of the parking lot. As the deputy pulled in the man exited the vehicle and was standing next to his door. The officer asked if he had any weapons on him and he said he didn't, the report states.

The officer conducted a pat down search for weapons and located a pipe with burnt residue inside. The man stated that he had "personal use cocaine" in his wallet. A deputy located the wallet and found a clear plastic battle that contained a white powdery substance of suspected cocaine. The man was placed into custody. During a search of the man's person a piece of a plastic baggie fell to the ground that contained suspect methamphetamine. Bail: $6,137.

— A 40-year-old woman, Ashley Rose Garcia, was arrested Saturday for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

During the investigation deputies located a methamphetamine pipe with a testable amount of methamphetamine, two scales with methamphetamine residue and associated paraphernalia (plastic bags and a glass pipe.) Bail: $2,500.

— A 41-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday for suspicion of domestic battery. According to the booking report, deputies responded to a call for a woman reportedly screaming. Deputies arrived to the location and located a woman who was emotional and said that her boyfriend insulted her and broke two Christmas ornaments that were important to her. She said she intended to sleep in her car to avoid further confrontation.

Deputies went to an apartment to speak with the man and saw that he was bleeding from his right cheek, and his face was swollen and read. He told deputies the woman punched him in the face.

Deputies reconnected with the woman who said that she had punched the man in the body but not the face. The woman did not have any apparent injuries and was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.

— A 39-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Sunday morning for suspicion of DUI. According to the booking report a deputy observed a vehicle failing to maintain lane by its right front and right rear tire crossing over the edge line into the bicycle lane twice, southbound on South Carson Street.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop, asked for his driver's license, registration and insurance. The officer observed the an had red, watery eyes, slurred speech and an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The deputy asked the man if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages. The man stated he had four beers.

He agreed to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment on the tests. He provided a preliminary breath test of .199 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail he provided evidentiary tests of .178 and .179. Bail: $1,137.

— A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of misdemeanor petit larceny and obstruction.
According to the booking report, the man allegedly stole a bottle of vodka from a grocery store in the 3700 block of South Carson Street and then went into the bathroom and began drinking it.

Deputies arrived and attempted to speak with the man, who refused to provide his name and date of birth or any information. He was arrested and taken to jail where he remained uncooperative but non-combative. Bail: $819.

— A 62-year-old man, Elias Olon Farnum, was arrested Sunday in the 500 block of East William Street for a felony fugitive from justice warrant and for felony possession of a controlled substance.

According to the booking report, as he was arrested and searched due to the warrant issued out of El Dorado County, Calif., for probation violation, deputies located suspected methamphetamine (0.4 grams) inside the man's pocket. He's being held without bail for the fugitive from justice warrant.

— A woman, Colleen Anne Dito, age not provided, was arrested Saturday for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

During the investigation, a search was done on a vehicle after a K9 had alerted positive for drugs. A purse belonging to the woman contained a methamphetamine pipe. The woman claimed ownership of the pipe and advised she had methamphetamine in her right front pocket, the report states. The officer retrieved the meth that was in a glass container. Bail: $3,637.

This week's pet of the week is Grammy. Grammy is a 9-year-old Pit Bull Terrier Mix and the sweetest of the golden girls. Grammy came to us as a stray, so we are still learning her true colors.

The morning briefing is out as of 9 a.m. Thursday, during which officials said crews on scene kept containment on all sides of the fire. Those evacuated from Washoe Valley have been allowed to return.

Good morning, Carson Now readers, here’s our update for Thursday morning.

Outlook on the Davis Fire is positive but is dependent entirely on the weather, according to fire officials during a Wednesday press conference that included officials from Washoe County, Truckee Meadows Fire, NV Energy and more.

As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, however, all active fires are currently within containment lines, which so far, have all been holding.

Several buildings were destroyed during Saturday's blaze from the Davis Fire in the old 395 corridor in Washoe City. The area was shut down for some time in part due to downed power lines which have since been removed.

I've been taking my dogs to beautiful Silver Saddle Ranch in Carson City for nine years and have seen many, many coyotes.

UPDATE 330PM: The NV Energy outage has grown to 2,635 customers in Carson City without power. NV Energy earlier had advised that it was canceling its Public Safety Outage Management (PSOM) watch for south Carson City, Genoa and Glenbrook areas but did advise outages are possible today due to weather events.

Firefighters on the Davis Fire achieved 31 percent containment overnight on the west side of the fire. Firefighters are bracing for gusty winds today, which has prompted a rare PDS Red Flag Warning.

NV Energy says it has canceled a Public Safety Outage Management (PSOM) Watch for Genoa, south Carson City and Glenbrook "due to updated weather forecasts in these areas."

Carson City students and teachers celebrate passion and creativity for National Arts in Education Week, Sept. 9-13, during instruction time, at lunch and before and after school.

A 37-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of grand larceny, obtaining money under false pretenses and obtaining or using an ID of another person, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of numerous emails sent to Douglas County residents in an attempt to fraudulently obtain money by threatening means.

As of Wednesday morning, additional evacuation warning zones have been added throughout South Reno. As of 11 a.m., evacuation warnings have extended as far north as McCarren and Kietzke, while the area west of 395 including the Summit Mall is included.

The City of Las Vegas posted on social media that fire crews are headed to Reno to help support fire stations while crews continue to battle the Davis Fire.

UPDATE: Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and Nevada Highway Patrol responded Wednesday morning to a vehicle crash on Highway 50 East and Flint Drive.

While containment grew to 31 percent on the Davis Fire, gusty winds will be a factor, prompting the National Weather Service in Reno to issue a rare PDS Red Flag Warning, also known as "Potentially Dangerous Situation" Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the Sierra Front.

Based on extensive discussions with public safety officials and considering the erratic behavior seen from the Davis Fire and deteriorating conditions, all schools in the Washoe County School District will be canceled Wednesday, Sept. 11.
