Nevada State Police identify driver in fatal rollover on I-80 in Washoe County
Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division has identified a Sparks man who died in a single-vehicle crash that happened Friday, Jan. 12 on I-80 near the Gold Ranch Road exit in Washoe County.
Leo Espinoza, 58, died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, NSP said in a news release.
According to Nevada State Police, NHP troopers responded at 8:52 a.m. to eastbound I-80 near the Gold Ranch Road exit, mile marker 2.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound on I-80.
The vehicle was traveling too fast for the conditions of the roadway surface, NSP said.
The driver, Espinoza, lost control of the Chevrolet and the vehicle rotated and struck the guardrail. The Chevrolet overturned and came to rest on its roof.
The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Northern Command West MIRT, also known as the Multidisciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team, is investigating this crash.
Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Northern Command West said this is the first fatal crash of 2024 that resulted in one fatality.
