Veterans Day 11NOV2016
We have just elected a new President and a new Congress after eighteen months of bitter mudslinging. Our politicians are so busy assassinating character using; lies, half truths and innuendo that they, and many of the people of our nation, forgot many of the issues that should be matters for adult discussion by serious men and women and their would-be leaders.
Most of us forgot about: the brave men and women who are fighting and dying for our freedom to falsely pretend that the world is, or has ever been, a peaceful place. We forgot about our soldiers in harms way and the evil tyrannies that are spreading around the world. We forgot to number the slaves and count the murdered in a calculus of war while we watched little girls, carrying flowers, chant childish slogans calling for peace in our time. There are very good reasons why we don't send children into battle nor elect them President.
Today is a day when grownups count the murdered and number the slaves in a human battle for liberty, justice and the minds and souls of every human being on the planet. Today, we remember all those that have perished and those that will soon perish defending our nation. Today, we count the murdered and number the slaves in a calculus of war and peace that is not ours to control. For, only strong nations can choose peace over war and our nation has become weaker than at any time since 1939 when Roosevelt promised, if he were reelected, that; “No American boy will ever die in a foreign war!” and Lord Chamberlain waved a little piece of paper with Hitlers signature that promised; “peace in our time.”
Today we remember those who saved us from Nazi, Communist, Fascist and Imperial tyrannies and those who will continue to save us all many times in the future. Today we remember and honor the Veterans who preserved our liberty and apparently the right of many men and women to act childish. Today it is time to grow up. Today it is time to remember as patriots and citizens of America.
Any man or woman who volunteers to risk their life to defend our nation deserves our respect no matter what our personal beliefs to the contrary. It is intellectually dishonest to ignore or fail to acknowledge our debt and our gratitude for the sacrifices made by soldiers who preserve our liberty. So please forgive the tearing eye when I lift my glass to toast all our noble warriors who have given their lives for our liberty. Here's to our noble warriors, may the angels who ride the whirlwind and protect our soldiers in battle bring God's peace and justice to every nation in the world. And here's to the memory of Sgt. Jason J. McCluskey who gave his last full measure of devotion to help secure peace and justice throughout the world. May we never forget and always remember to honor their service and sacrifice each Veterans Day.
