WM’s Northern California & Nevada VP Presents Award Celebrating the First Elected Latina U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto
At the annual celebration of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) in Washington, D.C., Alex Oseguera, Vice President for WM’s Northern California and Nevada region, paid tribute to the Honorable Catherine Cortez Masto, U.S. Senator from Nevada, for her dedication to public service and leadership in advancing the well-being of Nevada’s communities.
During the event, Oseguera applauded Senator Cortez Masto’s tireless efforts to support the people of Nevada, especially in areas such as education, healthcare, and economic development. Her work as the first Latina elected to the U.S. Senate has had a lasting impact not only in Nevada but across the nation.
"Senator Cortez Masto has provided outstanding public service to the great State of Nevada and to the Country.," said Oseguera. "At WM, we share that commitment. Our mission goes beyond waste management — it’s about making a positive, sustainable impact on the people and places we touch."
Oseguera highlights WM’s ongoing efforts to promote diversity and inclusion within the company. “Currently, 50.84% of WM’s workforce in Northern California and Nevada identifies as part of the Latino community. As someone with Latino heritage, I am proud to say that over my 32-year journey with WM, I’ve experienced firsthand the company’s openness to diversity and inclusion.”
The event, held by NALEO, celebrates the contributions of Latino leaders across the country and provides a platform for recognizing individuals who make a significant difference in public service. Senator Cortez Masto’s legacy of leadership and her focus on improving the lives of Nevada residents are closely aligned with WM’s core values of community support and social responsibility.
