Carson City Veterans of Foreign Wars sponsor audio and written essay competition
The Carson City VFW (Kit Carson Post 3762) would like to invite local public, charter, private, or home-school students in high school and middle school to compete in the following essay contests for scholarship awards. The VFW is dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in our future generation.
The 2024-25 “Voice of Democracy” contest is a 3-5 minute audio recorded essay for high school students themed “Is America Today Our Forefather’s Vision?” Winning submissions can be awarded prizes at the post, district, state, and national levels, with the top award winner receiving $35,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C.
The 2024-25 “Patriot’s Pen” contest is a 300-400 word written essay for middle school students themed “My Voice in America’s Democracy?” Winning submissions can be awarded prizes at the post, district, state, and national levels, with the top award winner receiving $5,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C.
Christina Robinson, a Fallon high school student, and Anexie Martinez, a Mesquite middle school student, each won $1,000 at the national level last year for their essays.
