Carson's Terek Been competes in World Championships on Canadian National Rowing Team
Terek Been attended Carson High School 2012-2016. He was a member of the CHS Baseball program. After graduating high school in 2016, Terek has climbed the Canadian ranks in rowing.
Initially competing on the Novice Rowing Team for the University of Toronto, Terek was quickly identified as a Canadian Next Generation Rower, allowing him to travel and train with the Canadian Rowing program.
Terek graduated from University of Toronto in 2020 and pursued a Master’s at McGIll University in Quebec, Canada, again finding his stride with the rowing program. In December 2021 he got the notification and invitation to move and train with the National Team.
He moved in February to Victoria, British Columbia where he trains rigorously daily. In a recent interview by Carter Eckl with the Nevada Appeal, he commented, “Rowing is a very physically demanding sport so there is always room for improvement. I want to be the strongest in the boat, so I’m hoping to kind of achieve that moving forward.” His Men’s 8+ team competed internationally this summer in the World Cup II and World Cup III, traveling to Poland, Italy and Switzerland. He stated, “It’s crazy to think that I am training with and competing against Olympians, which I never imagined doing in high school.”
The culmination rowing event of the year will be the World Rowing Championships, which is held in Racice, Czech Republic the week of September 18-25. Been hopes to help lead the team to a medal next week, and plans to continue training in Canada, working towards competing for Canada in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
