Leisure Hour Club Begins Its 127th Year with Historic Winters of the Sierras
The Leisure Hour Club will begin its 127th year with their first dinner meeting set for Wednesday, September 20. Presenting at the event will be Mark McLaughlin who will speak about “Snowbound! Legendary Winters of the Tahoe Sierras.”
His fast-paced snapshot presentation captures the compelling stories and dramatic images of railroad, highway, and volunteer rescuers battling mountain blizzards and deadly avalanches from historic winters past. This topic is especially relevant after the winter that Northern Nevada experienced this past year.
The Leisure Hour Club, established in September of 1896, is Carson City’s oldest continuously meeting social organization. Beginning to celebrate its 127th year, the organization is focused on its goal of promoting knowledge on important issues, science, music and literature. Its motto of "Let knowledge grow from more to more" comes from Tennyson’s poem In Memoriam.
Members paying their annual $25 dues, or new members joining in September, will have their September dinner costs covered by the Club. Reservations are required for the meeting and dinner and can be made by calling 775.302.8820 or by email to lhcreservations@gmail.com.
