Capital City Brewfest, return of V&T train, motorcycle races, jazz festival and more this weekend
There's no shortage of events and activities to choose from this weekend in Carson City. The jam-packed schedule includes some of the community’s summertime staples such as the Capital City Brewfest, the Jazz and Beyond festival, and the return of general season trains by the V&T Railway Commission. Capital City Brewfest, 3-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28
Say cheers! More than two dozen brewers and distillers are expected to line Curry Street, with live music in McFadden Plaza, for this annual summertime event, the primary fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Carson City. Money raised helps fund the organization’s scholarships and other community projects. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. Go here and here for more information.
Outlaw Flat Trac Race, Friday, Aug. 27 and Saturday, Aug. 28
Get ready for some rip roarin’ action with the Outlaw Flat Trac Motorcycle Races taking place at Fuji Park. Ametuer races will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the evening program starts at 7 p.m. A Benefit Race, Firemen vs. Police, will take place Friday, Aug. 27, with a portion of the gate cost going to benefit local Fire and Police departments. Ticket cost is $20 in advance and $25 the day of the event. Those who purchase an adult ticket Friday night, receive free entry for one child. Go here and here for tickets and information.
Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company returns with weekend performance, "Home Again!'
Returning this year for its first show, Western Nevada Musical Theater Company presents "Home Again!" running one weekend only, August 27-29. This is an exciting revue that celebrates the return of Broadway. Leading WNMTC soloists, dance troupe, and orchestra will bring you a sumptuous array of Broadway's best, with selections from Dear Evan Hansen, Hamilton, The Prom, Something Rotten, Wicked, Mamma Mia! and several other stunning productions. Jazz and more at the 18th annual Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival
Carson City’s 18th annual Jazz & Beyond Music & Art Festival, presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Association, offers 17 days of mostly free entertainment and more than 35 performances, Aug. 13-29, 2021. Go here for the weekend performance lineup. Jazz & Beyond Music Festival’s final performances will be on Sunday, August 29, at the Legislative Plaza and Capital Amphitheater. The audience is invited to sit under a canopy of trees and bring a picnic or enjoy on-site food-truck selections. The festival ends in a big way with the traditional Jazz & Beyond closing concert with Passing Thru (pending) at 3:30 and by the 18-piece Reno Jazz Orchestra and guest artists Tristan Selzler at 5:30 p.m. Go here and here for more information.
V&T Railway Rides Again, 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 and Sunday
All aboard! After 18 months since its last excursion, V&T Railway and the historic Engine No. 18 return to the tracks for exciting and memorable round trip rides from Carson City to Virginia City. The abbreviated season returns with ceremony and festivities at Eastgate Depot in Carson City, launching regular Saturday and Sunday trips through Oct. 31, followed by the return of the Polar Express this holiday season. Levitt AMP Carson City outdoor concert postponed to Saturday, Sept. 11
The final Levitt AMP Carson City concert has been postponed until Sept. 11, 2021, the same night as the Taste of Downtown, adding more live music as a special treat. Mumbo Gumbo and Moons of Jupiter will play the final show. Go here and the BAC Facebook page here for more information.
