Dementia and Alzheimer's caregiver class available in Carson City
A new six-week class beginning this month from the Alzheimer’s Association in Carson City is available and free to caregivers.
Learn how to be a better dementia caregiver by signing up for the Savvy Caregiver course. The course meets weekly on Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., starting August 22, 2024 and runs through Sept. 26, 2024.
The Savvy Caregiver is a 12-hour training program delivered in 2-hour sessions over 6 weeks. Developed by Dr. Kenneth Hepburn and colleagues from the University of Minnesota, this course provides clinical-level training for family caregivers caring for those with Alzheimer's or related dementias. Other doctor referrals are accepted as well, for people living with similar cognitive impairments.
Linda, who recently took the training, found the sessions to be "very informative" and helped her with her caregiving situation.
Registration is limited. For more information about the training please contact Mrs. Perez Bohen from the Alzheimer's Association at 775.254.0329, or email cpmarcos@alz.org.
