Nevada Artists Association announces winners of the 2023 summer show
The Nevada Artist Association is pleased to announce the winners in the judged Summer Show. Entries in this show are for sale through Sept. 8.
The winner for Best of Show went to a pastel called "Make a Wish" by Michelle Bowler.
Photography Winners:
Mitch Palmer's "Dawn Flight of the Sandhill Crane" won first place, followed by Kim Hunter Steed's "8 Seconds" in second and Dick Carr's "The Core Rises in third place. The honorable mentions of the competition include "Hunger" by Andrew Strom, "Ponca New Moon" Kim Hunter Steed, "Milky Way at Monument Valley" by Sandra Swan, "Claron Call" by Dick Carr and "Monument Valley Evening" by John Warden.
Pastel Winners:
"One Calm Day" by Linda Townsend won first place in the pastel competition, followed by Mariann Humphrey's "Pretty in Pink" in second and Linda Townsend's "Waiting for the Train" in third. "Sunrise" by Linda Townsend won honorable mention.
Acrylics Winners:
In first place, "Out of the Mist" by Don Fotine won for acrylics, followed by "Experimental" by Pam Brekas in second place and "Hill Song" by Don Fotine in third. Honorable mentions included "Essence of Life" by Don Fotine and "Lake Lorraine" by Gary Wilson.
Watercolor Winners:
"Majestic Elk" by Milton Matlean won first place in watercolors, followed by "Cow Girls" by Tina Forkner in second and "Room with a View" by Tina Forkner in third. Honorable mentions included "Perfect Balance" by Rhema Cruson, "Balinese Garuda" by Rob Jennings-Teats and "Carson Ranch Milk Barrel" by Cheridah Ann Spaulding.
Dry Media Winners:
Michelle Bowler's "Summer at Columbus Circle" won first place in dry media, followed by "Dog and Butterfly" by Michelle Bowler in second place and "Waving in the Wind" by Margie Leslie in third. Honorable mentions included "Dolly Llama" by Margie Leslie and "Peek-a-boo Pooch" by Lorraine Foster.
Oil Winners
In first place for oil was Mike Bond's "The Burro Family" followed by "Tahoe Shores" by Tracey Goff in second and "Nevada State Fair" by Diana Uzzell in third. The honorable mentions were "Virginia City Parade" by Mike Bond and "Roan Cowhorse" by Tracey Goff.
Wet Media Winners:
"Fish Nets" by Reta Hanks won first place in wet media, followed by "Lake Tahoe" and "Pyramid Lake" by John Denton in second and third.
Mixed Media Winners:
"Orchids in Eden" by Sandra Swan won first place in mixed media, followed by "Bird Watching 101" by Audrey Markowitz in second and "Note to Self..." by Michelle Fox in third.
3-D Art Winners:
The first place slot was won by Ann Allen's "Flower Yellow Tray." In second place was "Jewelry Box" by Ann Allen and in third place, "My Ride" by Ralph Hacker.
Other Winners:
In the "other" category, first place went to "Morning on Hwy 88", a felted wool piece by Liza Obukhovskaya, follwed by "Dual Mesas", a digital art piece by Catherine King in second and "Summer Bunny" another felted wool piece by Liza Obukhovskaya in third.
