Carson City's Catmandu shelter temporarily closed for facility makeover now through July 28
Catmandu will be closed from June 19 to July 27, 2023 for a facility makeover. Almost a decade of helping cats has finally caught up with us. The facility is desperately in need of maintenance, repairs and some necessary improvements. We just can’t put them off any longer.
The combination of an old building, a brutal winter, wear and tear from 9+ years, the effects of more than 2600 cats rescued and sheltered, and a to-do list that just gets longer has created issues that can’t be ignored any more. While nothing is hazardous or dangerous, these things need to be addressed before they get worse.

The concrete floor is old and crumbling in numerous places throughout the building. The vinyl floors are worn out in many of the rooms, we’ve physically scrubbed the paint off the walls in a whole bunch of places, the roof needs to be replaced, interior damage from the roof leaks needs to be repaired, the window catios need new floors and screen, the big catio needs new ramps, numerous wood cat structures and cabins need maintenance and paint, the list goes on and on. There is also a small leak in the watermain out by the street that needs to be fixed at an estimated cost of $3900.
Consequently, we are going to be closed to the public from June 19 through July 28 to give Catmandu a much-needed makeover. We will not be open to the public or providing any services during this time, including surrenders and adoptions.
We need donations and volunteers from the community to make it all happen. A couple of very generous donors are paying to replace the roof. A kind supporter donated flexible vinyl planks for the floor.
Home Depot North Carson donated all the paint we need. Zulily sent a crew of 10 on Wednesday the 21st to kick things off in a big way. Thanks so much you guys!
However, we still need to buy flooring adhesive, concrete floorpatch, some lumber, pay for the watermain repair, etc. If you can make a donation to help with the costs, we would be extremely grateful. For information on donating with a credit or debit card, please visit our website at catmanducc.org If you would like to send us a check, our mailing address is 1829 Brown St., Carson City, NV 89701.
We also really need volunteer workers to make it all happen. If you have home improvement or handyman skills, we could really use your help. We also need people who don’t have those skills to wield a wire brush, scrape off flooring, paint, clean, etc. Most big projects are going to be done Friday through Sunday.
If you can volunteer to help, please email momcat@catmanducc.org.
We will re-open Friday, July 28, 2023 at 11 am with a fabulous new look, ready for the next decade of helping needy and endangered cats in northern Nevada.
Meow and thank you.
