Nashville Songwriter performs at Comma Coffee
At 63, singer-songwriter Rick Millward is ramping up a career when most artists are retiring, or heading out for nostalgia tours.
This ambition was sparked by an experiment in social media, using the Reverbnation.com site to introduce his recordings to a wider audience. He joined Reverbnation a little over a year ago, as an experiment, entering the Nashville Americana “chart” at No. 85. He will be appearing at Comma Coffee in Carson City July 8.
Last February he reached #1 on that chart and stayed there until just recently. During that time the response to his music far exceeded his expectations. Hundreds of positive comments and downloads have encouraged him to move forward and release six tracks to Americana radio thru www.AirplayDirect.com. These tracks, “Limited Edition” are a collection of finely crafted songs that tap into the shared experiences of life and love.
He’s only pressing 200 CDs, hence “Limited Edition”, and plans to sell them on ebay. They’ll have handmade packaging and will be signed and numbered, like a fine art print. Digital copies will be available for download, but these physical CDs will be the only “official” copies of the EP. Time will tell if this is a winning strategy, but it’s not about making a lot of money, as nice as that would be, it’s more about getting some exposure with a novel approach that hopefully will acquaint listeners to a writer and performer with his own story to tell.
Originally from Idaho and now living in Nashville, Rick is making a two week swing thru Idaho, Nevada and California, appearing at The Divided Sky Cafe on July 10th from 7-8:30PM, as part of his “Go West” mini tour.
Rick was a professional musician in the decade after college, where he was an art major, and eventually left performing to shift to the production side of the business. He worked in recording studios and later moved into video production, eventually starting his own media production studio in San Francisco.
His business flourished during the Tech Boom and as it faded he pulled up stakes and moved to Nashville, partly for a lifestyle change and also to return to entertainment. Nashville has provided fertile ground for his efforts. Rick performs often at the many songwriter venues around the city, including the Bluebird Café, made famous by the TV show “Nashville.”
He also has a busy home studio, and is planning future travel as he continues to develop a new career that encompasses all his talents and experience.
