Kids to Parks Day celebration happening May 21 at Carson City's Mills Park
Kids to Parks Day is a national day of outdoor play promoted by the National Parks Trust. This year, the event will be hosted at Mills Park from 10:00am – 2:00pm on Saturday, May 21, 2022 and will include educational booths, music, food, outdoor activities, and the inaugural Carson City Junior Park Ranger Olympics! The whole community is invited to join in on this fun day of outdoor play.
The Junior Ranger Olympics will be a fun obstacle course consisting of 6 stages that’ll test Carson City Junior Park Rangers on the skills they need to become a future Park Ranger. Skills that will be tested include Packing a backpack, trail maintenance, physical agility, map and brochure sorting, first aid, and unlocking gates.
The 50-yard course will kick off at 10:00am and run every 20 minutes. It’s open to kids that can climb over obstacles, read, and sort through objects. Prizes will be given to all 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Kids will be able to practice the course in between runs and register for a time slot at the event.
The Wheel House will be hosting a Skate Jam at the skate park. They be providing music for the event, setting up skating obstacles, conducting trick competitions and giving away prizes. The Skate Jam will be starting at 10:00am.
Bone Appetit Bar-B-Que Grill will be offering food and drinks for the event and will have a special kid’s menu exclusively for Kids to Parks Day. Scoups Ice Cream & Soup Bar will be offering ice cream options.
The Carson City Railroad Association will be operating the Carson & Mills Railroad throughout the day on the 1.5 miles of track laid out around Mills Park. Rides will be FREE for the day. Find the railroad station off Seely Loop next to the Marv Teixeira Pavilion entrance.
The Carson City Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) will be FREE admission to all users for the day in celebration of Kids to Parks Day. The MAC is located at 1860 Russell Way, Carson City, NV 89706.
Other booths and fun will include Bee City USA, Muscle Powered, the Greenhouse Project, Junior Ranger Adventure Guide Workstations, Health and Human Services, and more. Parking will be available in and around Mills Park at 1111 E. Williams St. Carson City, NV 89701. Reminder that dogs are not allowed within the park.
