Carson City’s Green Dining District announces Earth Week Sustainable Menu
greenUP!, an environmental education non-profit working with local businesses to implement sustainable best practices, announced that Green Dining District restaurants – So Juicy, Great Basin Brewery Co., and Squeeze In – will participate in the Carson Street Green Dining District’s Earth Week celebration.
The Earth Week celebration will be April 24th – 30th, at the same time the Green Dining District Banner will fly across Carson Street.
The Green Dining District brings restaurants together to learn about environmental best practices that contribute to sustainable dining. Sustainable menu items include dishes made with locally sourced ingredients, seasonal foods, plant-based meals, and upcycled food – among other solutions.
Visit So Juicy for a healthy ‘Seasonal Salad’ featuring spinach, kale, carrots, cucumber, green onion, red onion, radishes, and artichoke. All the ingredients in So Juicy’s Seasonal Salad are locally seasonal to our Nevada desert climate between the Spring months of March to June.
Great Basin Brewing Co. will be offering their locally made ‘Sausage Sampler’ between 3 PM – 6 PM with your choice of 2 of 4 sausages. One of which is Great Basin’s Icky Beer Brat Sausage, which upcycles their iconic Icky Beer into a curated sausage packed with flavor all while reducing food waste.
Squeeze In will be serving a ‘Veggie Hash’ special during Green Dining District’s Earth Week featuring zucchini, white onion, tomato, and topped with black beans. Eating plant-based meals reduces the environmental stressors that raising livestock has on natural resources.
Sustainable menus promote sustainable food system solutions such as regenerative agricultural practices and natural resource conservation. According to the USDA, in 2020, 11% of the United States’ greenhouse gases come from the modern agriculture sector.
Combining sustainable food system solutions can reduce food’s environmental impact. Not only do sustainable food systems benefit the environment, but they also play a role in reconnecting people to learn about where their food comes from and how it grows.
The Carson Street Green Dining district is a greenUP! project. greenUP! is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides environmental education for businesses helping Nevada cut down on waste, reduce valuable resource consumption and fight climate change.
