Nevada's Large Animal Rescue Team celebrates National Volunteer Week
April 16-22 is National Volunteer Week. This week is celebrated by Least Resistance Training Concepts, the all-volunteer Technical Large Animal Rescue Team working in the five counties surrounding Nevada’s Virginia Range. While we originated as a training organization supporting horse owners and public safety agencies, today LRTC is the most active large animal rescue team in the country. We respond to nearly 500 urgent calls per year.
LRTC comes in when physical rescues such as extricating trapped animals, relocating Mustangs, helping injured large animals and foal emergency responses are required. Additionally, we work as a First Responder throughout this region and neighboring California counties by evacuating domestic large animals ahead of and during flooding, wildfires and other natural disasters.
Our volunteers, many of them seniors, are trained to meet industry, federal, state and local standards and are credentialed “front line” responders. Most of our volunteers go further and achieve technical large animal rescue certification. We also have volunteer positions in less physically demanding functions such as helping with logistics and support.
We are non-political and do not receive any direct government funding. We are a 501c3 non-profit corporation and funding our operations can be challenging. We are totally depended upon the generosity of the public, businesses and foundations.
Nevada is a state that has relatively low taxes and relies a great deal on volunteers. LRTC is proud to carry on Nevada’s tradition of volunteer service for its citizens, and in our case, our state’s animals.
