Four Wins In A Row for WNFC Coyotes

Western Nevada FC Coyotes continued their impressive form Saturday night where they captured a 1-0 road win at Southern Oregon Starphire FC. The win now marks their 4th of the season in the Wild West Conference. The Coyotes are currently standing with 12 points and are now in second place of the league with 2 games in hand to the leader at the moment.

The Coyotes came out in the first half with a fast and furious mentality. Every ball that was loose, the team had one to two players around it causing many problems for the opposition. WNFC was able to have the majority of the possession and had attack after attack. They just couldn’t find the score sheet early on with Starphire FC’s defense standing strong that showed to be a tough back line to break. Finally, Anthony Chinchilla was able to break through. He received a driven pass from Salifu Jatta out on the right wing. Chinchilla was able to bring the ball down cleanly and get an advantage in on goal. Finally, the defender he was holding off chopped him down in the box and the referee awarded a PK. Anthony calmly stepped up and placed it the corner of the goal giving the WNFC Coyotes a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute.

From this point on, WNFC was able to control the game maintaining the possession and work rate on both sides of the ball. Play of the Match, Daniel Baumgartner, was stellar in the middle Saturday night coming away with many 50/50 wins and helping the team keep their fast and furious mentality going through the whole 90 minutes. The Coyotes were able to maintain the lead and were unlucky not to convert a few more chances leading to a huge 3 points earned in Oregon.

GM and Head Coach Ian Hill was very impressed with the teams play Saturday night where he had this to say, “It was great to get out of Ashland with the victory. Southern Oregon was a tough team, well-coached, and well-organized. Their defense was difficult to break down, but we found a way to win. Daniel Baumgartner was the heart and soul of the team standing at 5 foot 6. It was amazing how many aerial battles that he won in the Midfield. In addition, I'm quite pleased with the play of Danny town and David Booth who are dual threat goalkeepers. They along with their defensive teammates and the whole team for that matter, held onto a clean sheet.”

A key part to the success up top came from Nick Tunic who overall had a very strong game Saturday Night. This is what he had to say following the 1-0 win, “It was one of those big team wins on the road that we had to grind out. Everybody on the field helped lead us to victory. It was a battle all 90 minutes, and all of our hard work and dedication and sacrifice is really starting to show.” His remarks show how close knit the team is with the willingness to fight for one another on the field for the overall outcome of earning the 3 points.

Anthony Chinchilla the whole game was very sound on the ball where he found pockets of space to exploit when on the ball and finding teammates making runs off the ball for him. Anthony also recorded the lone goal for the team and said this, “We came out and did what we had to do. Starphire was a great opponent, but we came with the mentality that we were the tops dogs, we’re the ones with a target on our backs now. We came out with a swagger. I believe we won the game from the beginning. We played our style of play, pressed when needing to and dominated. We had chances we didn’t capitalize on but that’ll come, trust me. I have to shout out Danny B in this game because that man inspired me that there shouldn’t be any reason you can’t dominate the game, he truly inspired me this game. The goal came from a great pass from Salifu, I was running the half space and then I controlled the ball in my possession and held off the left back and he fouled me in the box. Penalty Kick was awarded and I buried it. But again..... the men showed heart. I was subbed out around 70th minute I believe. Watching from the sideline, I saw how much the lads wanted to keep this clean sheet and get the win. Proud of everyone in this organization. Let’s keep it going and like I said before, the storm is coming!”

Daniel Baumgartner who inspired many during this game, was pleased with the win. Following the match, he was voted Play of the Match voted on by his teammates. This is what he had to say following the hard 3 points that were earned, “We took our preparation for the Starphire match very seriously. We had put in a lot of time in individually and as a team watching film, going over our set-pieces, and all the nitty-gritty stuff that goes on behind the scenes. We did not take them lightly and based off their play, I'm glad we hadn't. They gave us a true test. It was a hard-fought 3 points on the road and we are always happy with a win, but never satisfied.”

The Western Nevada FC Coyotes prepare for their second Home Match of the season against Napa Sporting SC who are currently in first in the league. Be sure to be on the lookout for more updates on our social media platforms and at https://westernnevadafc.com.
