Carson Valley Community Theatre and Douglas High School collaborate for 'The Play That Goes Wrong' beginning March 15
Carson Valley Community Theatre is pleased to present The Play that Goes Wrong, produced in collaboration with Douglas High School. As part of our strategic plan, every-other year CVCT collaborates with Douglas High School to allow students the chance to do a major production, on a big stage, with a large audience.
At the end of the production, we give DHS a donation to help their drama program. Historically, we have had a mixed cast for these productions that includes adults and students, but this year has been challenging. We were going to do a different show, but we but found out after the holidays that, due to a traveling company of that show, we could not do it.
This meant a new play had to be identified and all roles re-cast. Due to this, all roles are now played by high school students — and they are all great! Many thanks to Renee Kaldor, the drama director at DHS for her patience and creativity, and to Lucille Rao, producer of the show, for making this a show a reality in such a short time. It truly does take a village.
This play, written by three actors from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, shows what happens when a classic whodunnit story is presented and staged by a group of accident-prone thespians at the Cornley Drama Society. The story is a play within a play, with the actors playing their primary role, plus a character from the play they are presenting; The Murder at Haversham Manor.
In that play, there has been a murder at a country manor and an inspector is sent to investigate it and find the culprit. When the thespian group gets to performing, it all starts going wrong. Props disappear, lines are forgotten, performers break character, and various disasters occur during the production. All in all, it’s an hysterical evening of fun, laughs and surprises that you will love.
This production opens on March 15 and runs for two weekends. Performances are Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m.
There will be a pay-what-you-can night on March 21. You can attend the show for $1 dollar, $5 or $300 — whatever you’d like to pay! This is also a way for us to address our strategic plan and help bring the arts to the Douglas County for all to enjoy.
Tickets can be purchased at our box office in the Copeland Building on Mondays and Fridays, from 12-4 p.m. They can also be purchase at https://www.carsonvalleycommunitytheatre.org/. Tickets are $18 for students/seniors and $21 general admission.
Premium seating (in the first three rows) can be purchased for an additional $5/ticket. Tickets at the door are $23 for students/seniors and $28 for general admission. We do get very full, especially the second weekend, so get your tickets early. You’ll love this show. We encourage you to come and help support not only CVCT but the drama students at DHS. It may be the Play that Goes Wrong – but you’ll love it!
