Nevada Assembly Minority Leader P.K. O’Neill files for re-election
Assemblyman P.K. O’Neill officially filed for re-election in Nevada's 40th Assembly District. A dedicated public servant and the current Republican Minority Leader during the 83rd session of the Nevada Legislature, O’Neill brings a wealth of experience, having served three regular sessions and three special sessions.
"It has been a tremendous honor to not only represent my constituents but also to lead the Assembly Republican caucus during the last session. However, there is much work yet to be done, “said O’Neill. “Today, I am thrilled and invigorated to file for re-election. Our goal is to strengthen our Republican caucus, support our Governor, and contribute to a better Nevada."
Prior to entering the world of politics, O’Neill dedicated his career to law enforcement, and his passion for public service has remained unwavering. In the last session, he was elected as the Minority Leader and led the Assembly Republican Caucus.
"While leading the Assembly caucus during the legislative session is an incredible honor, we must also confront the significant challenges we face when it comes to protecting Nevadans from bad legislation,” said O’Neill. “Our caucus has experienced declining membership for far too long and losing seats is simply unacceptable. Our caucus's objective is to expand its ranks so that we can champion sound legislation and support our Governor in defeating unfavorable proposals moving forward."
The last session of the Nevada Legislature saw the Assembly Republican Caucus with 14 members, a decline of two seats from the previous session. This marked the lowest number of Republican seats in over a decade and put them in a "super minority." Despite winning three statewide offices, including the election of a new Republican Governor, Republicans failed to secure any seats where they faced a registration deficit to Democrats.
"It is simply unacceptable to return to the next session with a diminished presence, and I am resolute in preventing that," O’Neill emphasized. "It's time to expand the Republican caucus and ensure that every targeted race has the necessary resources. As a caucus, we are fully committed to recruiting, training, and identifying the most capable candidates, taking our campaign efforts seriously, and executing well-thought-out plans."
