RGJ politics reporter to be Democratic luncheon speaker
James DeHaven, who covers Northern Nevada and statewide politics for the Reno Gazette Journal, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon.
A Dayton, Nevada, native, DeHaven is the winner of the 2015 James Foley Medill Medal for Courage in Journalism and a two-time recipient of investigative reporting awards from the Nevada Press Association, which acknowledged his work on stories uncovering fraud and tenant intimidation at a low-income housing complex, as well as a previously unreported backlog of parolees in the Nevada prison system.
DeHaven joined the RGJ in November after a stint as watchdog reporter for the San Diego Union-Tribune. He previously covered city hall for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, where he was part of the team that uncovered billionaire Sheldon Adelson’s stealth acquisition of the newspaper. Before that he reported on government in Helena, Montana, and San Andreas, California. He also freelanced for the Reno News and Review and interned at KUNR before graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2012.
This event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 4, in the banquet room of Carson City's Round Table on Retail Drive just off College Parkway.
Sponsored by the Democratic Men's Committee, these luncheons help to defer recurring expenses at Carson City's Democratic HQ. Suggested donations of $5 or more gratefully accepted but are not required. All are welcome.
