Wind mishap causes plastic storm of tiny styrofoam beads along North Lake Tahoe beaches

A floating dock that became loose during a recent storm released an estimated 100,000 or more plastic styrofoam beads onto the pristine beaches of Ski Beach and Incline Beach at Lake Tahoe's north shore, in what Clean Up The Lake organizers called a "shocking environmental incident."

FIG Insurnace, A+ Documents, and Sierra Payroll are new to the winewalk and can't wait to meet the regulars and the first timers. The winewalk happens the first Saturday of every month and is sponsored by the Downtown Business Association. It is a fun way to learn about our local businesses. Hope to see you next month!

A Carson City man, well known for playing the role of Santa Claus for three decades at functions around the capital city including Holiday with a Hero, the Polar Express, the capital tree lighting and Saturday's breakfast at the Governor's Mansion, has come on difficult times this year, losing his home to fire.

In a heartwarming initiative, the RennerVation Foundation, led by founder Jeremy Renner who lives part-time in the Mt. Rose area, delivered the enchantment of Christmas to 140 deserving youth. The inaugural RennerVation Christmas Celebration, held on Dec. 9, 2023, in Virginia City, was a magical affair that was part of the town’s Christmas on the Comstock December events.

High-income taxpayers are subject to the 3.8% Net Investment Income Tax on the lesser of net investment income of the excess of modified adjusted gross income over $250,000 for married filing joint and qualifying widowers, $125,000 for married filing separately, and $200,000 for all other filers.

Carson High School’s Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) program earned fourth place overall (All-Service – Mixed division) at the National Raider Team Challenge in Fort Knox, Ky. last month. The inaugural event hosted by the U.S. Army Cadet Command brought together talented cadets from across the nation to compete in a series of physically challenging events.
