The Mile High Jazz Band will be joined by singer Jakki Ford and six award-winning poets and readers for "One and Only,” an evening of big-band jazz and poetry, on Tuesday, July 12, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., outdoors at A to Zen Studio in the north parking lot (former location of Grocery Outlet), 1803 N. Frank Tortorich, local author, will lead a hike focused on the history of Carson Pass. He will share some stories during a relaxed hour and a half walk. Retired USFS Ranger and published author Frank Tortorich leads this hike by asking “Do you see what you are looking at?” and urges people to see glaciation and more in the forest they think they know. A meander over a couple of miles, pausing to appreciate the many hidden treasures of the forest. All participants will leave with knowledge of the forest! This event is 1-2 hours to Frog Lake. Organizers of the July 4 fireworks show that was cancelled at the last minute by the Carson City Fire Department due to wind conditions, has been rescheduled for this Saturday, July 9, between 9:15 and 9:30 p.m. wind permitting at Mills Park.

UPDATE 8:27 p.m. The Carson City Fire Department has canceled the fireworks display at Mills Park due to gusty winds.

The 2022 Carson City Independence Day fireworks show hosted by RSVP, also known as Nevada Rural Counties Retired & Senior Volunteer Program, is happening Monday evening in Mills Park, with fireworks to begin around 9:30 p.m. Those watching are encouraged to tune into radio station Wild 102.9 FM for synchronized music accompanying the display.
