At approximately 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, the evening of the annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights, sounds of favorite holidays tunes will be emanating from the picturesque clock tower of the Paul Laxalt Building in Carson City to officially herald in the holiday season.

With the theme "Candy Cane Christmas" the 26th annual Carson Valley Parade of Lights is this Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022, beginning at 5 p.m. Parade-goers, family and friends are encouraged to grab their blankets and chairs to watch the floats, marching bands, Color Guard and special guests from the North Pole all making their way along Highway 395 from Eddy Street to Minden Park.

Sunday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m., Wylder Resort Hope Valley continues its Eastern Sierra history series with a Chautauqua style presentation of the Donner Party and “Those that Survived.”

Come and join Carson Mall for its holiday craft show. The fair features Homemade crafts, Christmas gifts, locally made jewelry and artworks, food, drinks and live entertainment.

Toys for Tots kicks off another season! Toys for Tots served over 1770 children in 2021 and the demand is expected to increase in 2022. The local program serves children in Carson City, Douglas, Storey and western Lyon counties.

St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School invites the community to experience the sixth annual Night of Nativity Exhibit. There is no easy solution to solving homelessness in our area. But one local organization is trying; one person at a time. Rotary Club of Carson City members will learn about that organization, Spirit of Hope, at the club’s meeting on Tuesday, November 27.

The public is welcome to attend the noon meeting in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom.

The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation is holding its first open house at the historic Wungnema House since before the pandemic this Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Wungnema House is the stone building on the east side of Mills Park across from the high school, off Saliman Road. Truckee Meadows Community College political science professor Fred Lokken will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon.
