You've heard about those mysterious black helicopters, but does anyone know why we have two white Chinook helicopters circling around south Carson City?

A proposal to refund outstanding bond debt, plus a review of policies involving co-curricular and interscholastic activities will round out the Carson City School District board meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William St. The meeting will be televised live on Access Carson City TV and here at Carson Now.

A Carson City man found hiding in an apartment behind a refrigerator was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant charge and the woman he was with faces charges of harboring a fugitive.
Keith Watrous, 39, was arrested Saturday inside an apartment in the 2000 block of West College Parkway. He had a felony warrant for his arrest in connection to a battery with a deadly weapon, and a misdemeanor violation of suspended sentence. Bail was set at $13,000 for the fugitive warrant, plus he faces bail of $10,000 in Douglas and a $3,000 in Carson City Justice Court.

A 28-year-old Carson City man faces a gross misdemeanor charge of battery on a police officer, and a misdemeanor resisting charge after he allegedly elbowed an officer in the head on Sunday morning outside of a bar.
Carlos Edwards Lopez was taken into custody following the alleged assault. His bail has been set at $4,612. Deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of North Carson Street at about 2 a.m. after there was a report of a fight in progress, according to the arrest report.

The second annual Concert Under the Stars, a benefit for The Greenhouse Project, will be on Wednesday, July 14 at Adele's Restaurant and Lounge in Carson City.

JMark Cash presents the Chihuahua Desert Duet, an acoustic duet playing rock, folk, country and traditional Mexican music. The musicians will perform at Sierra Place, 1111 West College Parkway in Carson City. The duo invite anyone stop in, shake a hand or two, kick up a little sawdust and let out a hoot. The Mile High Jazz Band presents the Jazz Guys with Kenn Pettiford, from 8 to 10 p.m., at the courtyard at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St., Carson City. Admission is $5 general, and free for ages 18 and under. Dance lessons precede the band, 6-7:15 pm., for $5 additional.

A Carson City woman who told authorities she had smoked methamphetamine and then fell asleep next to her infant daughter faces felony child abuse charges after the baby tested positive for the drug.
Charlene Marie Benitez, 22, is being held at the Carson City Jail on $50,000 bond after being arrested early Saturday morning. Charges include felony child endangerment and abuse that caused the infant physical or mental harm. The condition of the infant is unknown at this time.
Subsequent portions of the investigation report appear to be withheld.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a red flag fire weather warning for the Carson City region. A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions will occur. Here are the road construction projects in the Carson City area for Monday, July 12 through Sunday, July 18. Expect some delays and use caution in the construction zones.
The Roop Street widening project will continue this week with the following impacts expected:
— Effective Thursday, July 8, Roop Street will be closed to through traffic from William Street to Robinson Street.  This closure will last through Sept. 1.
—The intersection of Caroline Street and Roop Street will be closed to through traffic through Sept. 1. Traffic may cross Roop Street at Washington Street.
