CARSON CITY — Democrats today unveiled proposed boundaries for Nevada’s four congressional districts, the political consequences of which they will debate this afternoon at the Legislature.

CASA volunteers are appointed by Carson City's Juvenile Court as guardian ad litem for children in child welfare court cases.

The CASA volunteer speaks up for the best interests of the child.

Being a CASA volunteer requires patience, caring, research, writing, good communication skills and a commitment.

There is a background check, an interview and 30 total hours of training.

Carson City firefighters are battling a brush fire at the Carson City dump tonight. Multiple engines responded to the initial call that came in shortly before 10 p.m. Additional fire personnel have been called in from outside the city, including a Lyon County fire engine.

Though the fire is reportedly burning, the size hasn't been determined or reported on, or whether there are structures threatened in the fire's path. The dump is located in the 3600 block of Flint Drive.

According to a firefighter on the scene via scanner dispatch, crews may be there for "an extended length of time."

Two bicycle events going on today at the Bike Habitat in Carson City, reports Jeff Moser at BikeCarson.com. From 3 to 6 p.m. is the Felt Bicycles demonstration. CARSON CITY — The recent earthquake activity around the Hawthorne area in Northern Nevada should act as a reminder to Nevadans to check that they have adequate earthquake coverage for their home or business. Nevada is one of the most active states for earthquakes and ranks third in the country for earthquakes of magnitude 5.0 or higher.

The public is invited to view a presentation, review display materials, and submit comments on the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization's Carson City Freeway Corridor Multi-Use Path Alignment Study.

The meeting will be in the lobby and the Bonanza room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.

As a reminder, the Clear Creek Bowmen, an archery organization in Carson City, will hold a fund raising, archery shoot on Sunday, May 8.

That shoot will be held at the Centennial Park Archery Range (east of the Eagle Valley Golf Course), just off U.S. 50.
Driving directions to the Archery Range from the intersection of U.S. 395 and U.S. 50 in Carson City: Drive four miles east on U.S. 50 (go past the Deer Run Road Intersection).

Turn left at the Added Storage Building and drive north until the road ends. Turn right at the Archery Range sign and look for the green building.

This is a final reminder that the Clear Creek Bowmen, an archery organization in Carson City, will hold a 3-D “Fun Youth” archery shoot on Saturday, May 07 for local youths, ages 12 and under.

That youth shoot will be held at the Centennial Park Archery Range (east of the Eagle Valley Golf Course), just off U.S. 50.

The State of Nevada announced today that it has reached agreements between the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) and Eureka County, Elko County and Clark County (Mt. Charleston) to continue to provide “all-risk” emergency services to these counties.

These services were scheduled to be transferred back to the respective counties June 30, 2012, per Gov. Brian Sandoval’s recommended budget now being considered by the Nevada State Legislature.

The California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) held another successful opening of the general trout season in the eastern Sierra last weekend. Department and local officials said that although the overall number of fishing enthusiasts was down from last year, the quality of the fish caught was outstanding.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) is offering a two-day still-water beginning spin fishing clinic May 13 -14.

The Friday evening session will take place at the Verdi Elementary School from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This session will cover rod and reel selection, casting, line selection, basic knots and rigging for lure, bait and fly fishing with spinning gear.

Tim Baugh of Bridgeport, California and his publisher, Companion Press of Bozeman, Montana, have received a design award for Spirit of a Hunter, published in June of 2010.

PubWest, the leading trade association of independent publishers in North America, has announced the winners of its 2011 Book Design Awards contest, in which Spirit of a Hunter won a Silver Award in the Sports/Fitness/Recreation category.
