Record snow throughout the state is stacking up to be one of the largest snowpack years in California’s recorded history, which could also raise waterways on national forests to unsafe levels. A lucky local turned a $10 bet into a $14 million-dollar Megabucks jackpot Sunday night at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa. The longtime Atlantis guest, who wished to remain anonymous, played Megabucks Mega Vault for 40 minutes before hitting the biggest slot machine win in Reno history. The official value of the record-setting jackpot was $14,005,833.17.

On second reading Thursday, Carson City supervisors repealed 17.10 Open Space Development, which has been hotly contested in recent years.

The term Open Space is a misnomer; in fact, 17.10 has allowed developers to reap many benefits without actually being required to provide communal space for the public to gather or recreate.

Rosetta (Ballard) McFadden passed away peacefully at home on April 1, 2023, with her daughter at her side. She was 93 years old. She was born on Feb. 28, 1930 in Plains, Kansas to parents John Preston Ballard and Anna Lena (Shinogle) Ballard.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development approved four companies that will receive $4,922,336 in tax abatements. In return, these companies are projected to create 85 jobs in the next two years at an average weighted hourly wage of $28.89. That figure is expected to grow to 134 in five years.
