The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) invites nonprofit organizations to help wildlife by auctioning big game hunting license tags for the 2012-13 season. These tags will allow the highest bidder to hunt bighorn sheep, deer, elk and pronghorn antelope in California. There are only 13 of these special fund-raising tags reserved for 501(c)(3) nonprofit groups to sell and they’re sure to draw many participants to any fund-raising event.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) has scheduled a special upland game season just for youth hunters. This statewide season is Sept. 24-25 and is open only to hunters 15 years of age or younger. Participants will have the opportunity to hunt chukar and Hungarian partridge, California, Gambel's and Scaled quail, and rabbits.

League to Save Lake Tahoe Executive Director Rochelle Nason has resigned today, effective October 2011, after nearly 20 years of working to protect and restore Lake Tahoe.

League Program Director Carl Young will serve as interim executive director, with Nason serving as a senior advisor, until a new executive director has been selected.

A Carson City Deputy had to use his Taser to fend off an angry dog while answering a domestic violence call yesterday afternoon in the 2100 block of Columbia Street.

A woman called 911 for an unknown problem and told police to hurry. According to the arrest report, when the deputy arrived, he saw a 58-year-old male subject leaving the residence. When the deputy asked the man if there was a problem in the house, he said his girlfriend was having a seizure, but continued to his vehicle as if he were going to leave.

CARSON CITY – Nevada’s newest representative to Washington, DC was in the air today on his way east to be sworn in as the fourth person to serve in the 2nd Congressional District.
In an interview today before departing for his new job, former state Sen. Mark Amodei said he expects to be sworn into office Thursday and be casting votes the same day.

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval said today state officials will meet with Clark and Washoe county representatives who are seeking nearly $124 million in refunds from the state – before deciding if litigation is necessary.
Sandoval, attending a meeting of the Board of Examiners, said afterward that Nevadans expect their elected officials to talk over disputes to see if they can be resolved before resorting to the courts.
