Dutch Bros., Coffee at 1449 South Carson Street in Carson City will donate $1 for every drink it sells Friday to the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada. Dutch Bros. will also be collecting donations from customers, so those who wish to give money to the Boys and Girls Club can do so during the fundraiser.

The fundraiser runs throughout the day during coffee shop hours.

UPDATE: The body of a man found this morning in the hill area behind the AM/PM at 4190 South Carson Street likely died of exposure to the cold weather, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene at around 11:25 a.m. after a caller phoned dispatch saying there was a man behind the store who wasn't moving. Foul play isn't suspected, said Furlong. A coroner and detectives were also investigating.

A winter storm is headed for Carson City on Friday, but there's a good chance the weather event will happen after 8 p.m., missing the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights at the Nevada State Capitol Building.

"It will be more than likely that people will be able to get out before it even starts," said National Weather Service Meteorologist Dawn Johnson. "It looks like the brunt of the impacts will happen overnight Friday night, with some snow beginning after 8 p.m., and the heaviest snow after midnight."

A 49-year-old Carson City woman arrested Wednesday faces misdemeanor charges of petit larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, deputies with the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team were conducting a business check at a casino in the 3600 block of Goni Road at around 6 p.m. Dec. 4.

Casino management pointed to a woman and stated they thought she was under the influence of methamphetamine. The woman was sitting at a slot machine and moving around rapidly as she played, the arrest report states.

Carson City-based Ametherm, a manufacturer of thermistors and other electronic components for circuit protection, announced Thursday that it has doubled the size of its manufacturing plant with a newly purchased 36,000-square-foot facility on Carson City's east side.

In an industry where Asia-sourced components dominate, Ametherm manufactures all its products in the U.S.A., at its new facility and at a smaller Carson City plant that was its headquarters from 1994 until recently.

There was a run on Christmas trees in the Lake Tahoe Basin over Thanksgiving weekend. The bad news is that all 2,500 permits were snagged and there won't be anymore issued between now and Christmas.

The good news is nearby Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, which has 5,000 permits this season, continues to sell them at a rapid clip, Forest Service officials said.

Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort will open Friday for the 2013-14 season with early season conditions and very limited terrain. Sierra Resort will run the Easy Rider Express chairlift accessing the skiers and snowboarders right half of Broadway trail.

This is a green run and will have small to medium rail features, giving guests a chance to get their park legs back underneath them. Forecasts show possible snow showers throughout the weekend and into next week for Lake Tahoe, potentially allowing Sierra Resort to open more trails conditions pending.

A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Wednesday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence and going too fast for conditions, among other misdemeanor charges.

According to the arrest report a deputy patrolling the area of Koontz Lane in Carson City spotted a green Geo traveling at a high rate of speed shortly before 2 a.m. The back of the vehicle was fish tailing and the tires, spinning.

The Salvation Army of Carson City is just one and a half weeks into its annual Red Kettle fundraiser and is 35 percent short from what it collected in 2012. The news comes at a time when more than 1,000 Carson City area children have registered for Christmas day food and toys directed through the nonprofit organization.

The Salvation Army relies on money raised in the red kettles — in coins, dollars and checks (and the occasional diamond ring or gold tooth) to serve more than 17,000 individuals in Carson City, Dayton and Douglas County each year, said Lt. Mark Cyr.

Christmas and holiday lights will illuminate the Capitol Building and downtown Friday night when Carson City flips the switch at the annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights celebration.

I am just wanting to warn the residents in Carson City that there are people that are breaking into cars in the evening and stealing items from them. I live on south east side of Carson City near Seeliger Elementary School. Last night our neighborhood was hit.

One car had the rear window completely broken out. My husband had someone break into his vehicles and steal a bunch of his construction tools (Skil Saw, Cordless Drill, radio charger, grinder and more) that he needs for work and is now going to cost us a pretty penny to replace.

LAS VEGAS — The Nevada Commission on Tourism has awarded more than $400,000 in grants to the state’s rural areas to support tourism efforts, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, NCOT chairman, announced Tuesday. The longstanding Rural Grants Program ultimately generates room tax revenue for the state, as grant recipients must use the monies to maximize their marketing outreach, bringing more travelers to Nevada’s rural areas.

UPDATE: Southbound traffic at Hot Springs and Roop in Carson City is closed due to several spinouts as of 3:26 p.m. Traffic is backed up in the area, with snowplows and sanders making their way to clear the road.

An accident reported at I-580 and Eastlake is causing traffic problems extending into the Washoe Valley and old Highway 395, according to NHP. The freeway was closed briefly. Both lanes are now open as of 3:38 p.m.
