A Carson City man faces three felony charges included possession of stolen credit cards and drugs after a Jan. 25 arrest near Fairview and Highway 50 East.

Casey Justin Cribbins, 25, is being held on $29,364 bail. A Sheridan, Wyo., woman who was with him faces misdemeanor warrant charges.

RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada, Reno’s Seismological Laboratory reports an ongoing swarm of earthquakes near Virginia City, Nev. since Tuesday, Jan. 21. To date, over 100 events have been located. Four have been larger than magnitude 3.0, in the past two days.

There have been no reports of damage. The larger events have been felt in Virginia City about 8 miles to the southwest and in Reno about 10 miles west of the swarm.

Carson City fire and rescue responded this afternoon to a single-vehicle accident on the freeway in the northbound lane south of William Street.

The accident was reported at 12:47 p.m. The driver of the car was reported to have an injury to her arm and a laceration to her head.

Bordewich Bray Elementary in Carson City was evacuated briefly this afternoon due to a false fire alarm. A call came into dispatch at around 12:30 p.m. asking Carson City firefighters to respond to the school because a fire alarm was triggered and an evacuation was in progress.

High Sierra Swing Dance Club presents its monthly dance party Feb. 22 at the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City. NV Energy has been experiencing power outages since Wednesday night in Carson City, Douglas County and in the Yerington area.

In the Smith Valley area around 500 customers were without power beginning at around 8 a.m., Thursday morning including customers in Topaz Ranch Estates. The outage is due to downed wires, said NV Energy spokeswoman Faye Andersen.

An overflow crowd ran overtime at a Wednesday evening town hall in which pro and con arguments were presented on a Carson City sales-tax hike for capital projects.

Restaurant inspections are made weekly by the Carson City Health and Human Services Environmental Health Division. Inspections through Jan. 29, 2014 include restaurants, fast food restaurants, a supermarket takeout, a bakery and bars and lounges.

Carson City / Storey County 4-H Readying for Annual Fabric Sale

Area 4-H members are on the lookout for donations of fabric/sewing notions and clean, useable household items. Sewing notions, crafting items, sewing machines, etc. are all welcome donations. Donations can be dropped off now through January 31, 2014 at University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, 2621 Northgate Lane, Suite 15, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you have large items to donate, please call 887-2252 in advance. Donations will be taken at Fuji Park on Friday, February 7 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Here is this week's fishing report for rivers, lakes and streams in Nevada, Northern California and the Sierra. This report is for the week of Jan. 30 through Feb. 4, 2014. The snow is a welcome relief for drought conditions affecting the regional water ways. We hope it continues.

The snow has arrived to Carson City. About 2 or 3 inches thus far this morning and at least 10 inches being reported for Lake Tahoe area ski resorts.

A Winter Advisory for the Carson City area and a Winter Storm Warning for the Lake Tahoe Basin and Sierra is underway. Travel conditions in the Sierra are slow going with some spinouts reported on Highway 50 and State Route 207 and off of Clearview.

A new exhibit at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City called “Finding Fremont: Pathfinder of the West” will be unveiled by Gov. Brian Sandoval tonight at a public reception from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

The exhibit focuses on the explorer’s Western journey from 1843-1844, when he earned his nickname “The Great Pathfinder,” and brought his famed cannon to Nevada. One suspect is in custody today and faces a charge of felony eluding in Monday's residential burglary on Roundup Road in Carson City that resulted in a vehicle chase and search for the suspect, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Brandon Peart, 32, of Carson City was booked into jail with bail at $25,000. The resident of the address had reported walking into the home and discovering the burglary in progress. According to the initial report, the suspect threatened the resident with bodily harm before fleeing the area and taking guns with him.

The Nevada Rural Counties Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Inc. (RSVP) has appointed Mike Reynolds as the Carson City and Regional Mobility Manager. Lack of transportation has been identified as the greatest deterrent to accessing lifesaving goods and services for homebound, low income, frail seniors and disabled persons.

Snow and rain are on the way. The National Weather Service reports a "Atmospheric River" will bring up to two feet of snow to the Sierra and Western Nevada through the end of January. The valleys could get up to a half-inch of rain Thursday. A winter storm watch has been issued for the Lake Tahoe Basin.

An earthquake near Virginia City registered a magnitude 3.2 on the Richter scale shortly before 8:30 this morning. The epicenter was recorded to be about nine miles northeast of Virginia City, according to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory website.
Thus far there are no reports of any damage or injuries.

The Carson City District Attorney's Office filed a criminal complaint late Monday accusing a fired state employee who led a public attack campaign against state and local officials, of solicitation to commit murder of Carson City Justice of the Peace John Tatro.

As part of the lawsuit to decide marriage equality in Nevada, the plaintiffs filed suit against the State, Carson City, Clark County and Washoe County. Clark and Washoe counties refused to defend the lawsuit. The State and Carson City prevailed at the Nevada Federal District Court level. As a result, the plaintiffs appealed to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

UPDATE TUESDAY 9AM: The search continues this morning for a man who led Carson City sheriff's deputies on a vehicle chase near the Prison Hill area. Both detectives and deputies continued the search and the investigation overnight and into this morning.

The suspect allegedly broke into two homes, stole several weapons and other property and fled. A woman walked in on the suspect as he was stealing guns from her home and gave authorities a description of the vehicle the man was seen driving.

Thirteen months ago, Adam Lanza entered Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut and killed twenty students and six members of the school’s staff. Earlier, Lanza shot and killed his mother before driving to the school on his deadly mission. His death at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head ended the brutal killing spree. If predicted rain and snow arrives this week, U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will resume prescribed fire operations in several locations around the Lake Tahoe Basin beginning Tuesday.

Burning will take place on the South Shore in the Luther Pass Campground off of Highway 89 S, on the West Shore off of Bunker Drive near Tahoe City and off of Chalet Road near Alpine Meadows ski area, and on the East Shore off of Easy Street on Lower Kingsbury Grade. A Carson City man was arrested Sunday and faces a felony charge of domestic battery with strangulation.
Jermaine Jordan, 28, is being held on $18,137 bail.

According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the 400 block of East Park Street for a fight in progress. While responding, dispatch advised there was a man outside a unit hitting a woman in the head.

While the short-term forecast shows a change this week from the overall stubborn pattern of warm and dry conditions over the region, the drought for this part of the far west is severe and unless we get a lot of snow in the coming few weeks, we're going to face much more serious issues this coming summer.
