Stephanie Arrigotti has been directing and producing shows for the Western Nevada Musical Theater Company at WAC for several years and every year she brings greater casts and more entertaining shows to the Community Center in Carson City. Friday night she opened "The Phantom of the Opera" to an enthusiastic audience with possibly the biggest first-night numbers in the theater group's history.

And the audience got what it came for — a beautifully staged and directed show with a cast of very talented actors.

This is a collaboration of both music and poetry coming together to raise awareness about the famine sticken areas of Somalia and Kenya. Young performers from Douglas County, Carson City and other local areas will be showcasing their talent in hope to raise money donations for the World Food Program, along with awareness. The event is a way to show the community that we can help and make a difference. I hope you can attend!

Joe Conforte is unquestionably one of the originals who made Nevada what it is, for better or worse. His book "Breaks, Brains and Balls," written with the help of local author David W. Toll, is a truly amazing report of how he turned a seedy brothel the Mustang Ranch just off I-80 east of Reno into a Midas machine, and in the process subverted Nevada law or made new Nevada law.

If you have recently noticed that some of the traffic signals in town don't seem to be giving you enough time to get through them, help is on the way.

The city implemented a new coordinated traffic signal system two weeks ago, and have been making adjustments to it since then to work out the bugs, according to Transportation Manager Patrick Pittenger.

Pittenger said they have had many complaints from citizens during that time about problems with traffic signal timing, especially being able to cross main thoroughfares from side streets.

Carson City will be utilizing the CodeRED Emergency Notification System on Wednesday, November 9th to call the entire community. This exercise is being held in conjunction with the first national wide Emergency Alert System test and encourages citizens of Carson City to establish emergency contact information.

The calls will be in the morning and will continue until the entire database has been attempted. This call will give Carson City emergency personnel the chance to operate the system as if there has been a community wide disaster.
