The Millennium Bugs, a five-piece combo affiliated with the Mile High Jazz Band, will perform on Friday, Sept. 7, 7:00 to 10 p.m., at Silver Oak Golf Club and Event Center, 1251 Country Club Drive, Carson City. Admission is free.
The musicians are Gil Linsley, trumpet; Dan Lancaster, sax, flute, clarinet; David Bugli, keyboard; Charles DiLaura, bass; and Neil Strocchio, drums. The group plays a variety of jazz styles for listening and dancing.

CARSON CITY – Democrats continued to outpace Republicans in their voter registration efforts in August, signing up 12,163 new voters to 5,042 for Republicans, the Secretary of State’s office reported today.

Registered nonpartisans increased by 6,575 during the same time period, also exceeding the registrations by the GOP.

Former Vagos biker club president Patrick William Ouellette, 30, was sentenced Tuesday in Carson City District Court to 16 years in prison for assault and with a deadly weapon stemming from a 2011 beating case against a fellow member, the district attorney's office reported.

A South Lake Tahoe woman died in a motorcycle crash on Monday near Glenbrook on Highway 50, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports. Jennifer Lyrea Leonard, 50, died after being thrown from the motorcycle she was riding on.

Hope and the promise of it for hundreds of Carson City area cancer patients lands on the lawn of the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center today. HopeFest, an annual benefit concert that will feature the music of Mo5aic and The Cutters, is one of the Carson City's biggest fundraising events with 100 percent of the money raised going directly to supports local cancer patients in need.

UPDATE: 5:09PM: A female passenger on a motorcycle died this Labor Day and the driver was seriously injured on Highway 50 near Glenbrook, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. In a separate accident on Mount Rose Highway a motorcyclist has also died.
The Highway 50 accident, reported at 3:13 Monday afternoon near Logan Creek on the East Shore of Lake Tahoe, shut down traffic in the eastbound lane. Traffic, as of 5 p.m. continued to be diverted to the westbound lane, said NHP Trooper Barbara Stapleton.

Carson City leaders will consider drafting a letter to Gov. Brian Sandoval with copies to the city's legislators, about changes made at the state level which have cut services and have required local governments, such as Carson City, to pick up the tab.

Families are invited to explore “Beastly Encounters” at a special Nevada State Museum program from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 in Carson City. Western Nevada College students who are beginning fall classes should be better able to succeed, thanks to a new admission and college preparation process.

‘Project Graduate’ is reinventing the way new degree and certificate-seeking students are preparing for classes. In addition, WNC now requires advising services to new students before they register.

“It’s changed our admissions process, changed our entire counseling and advising processes,” said Deborah Case, director of Counseling Services. “It’s very impactful in the way we do business for new students.”

Yesterday was my last official day in charge of Carson Now. Today I am heading off to Silicon Valley and the adventure of being a Knight Fellow at Stanford University.

I'm happy to report that I'm leaving Carson Now in good hands. Actually, two sets of hands, which will mean more news and better service for the people of Carson City.

Investigators of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office have identified three suspects believed involved in two recent residential burglaries that occurred on Wildrose Dr, in Minden between Sunday, August 19 and Thursday, August 23.

Through extensive follow-up investigation, DCSO detectives were able to tie the suspects to possession of property that was stolen in the residential burglaries. Much of the property, estimated to have a value of approximately $40,000, has been recovered.

Two women stole nearly $4,000 worth of meats and cheeses from the back of Café of Adele's early this month.
The thieves broke into the back of the restaurant around 2 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, Carson City sheriff's Detective Salvador Acosta said.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies have arrested the following indivdiduals based on felony or gross misdemeanor allegations:

  • Stephanie Farmer, 23, a Carson City woman, at 6 p.m. Thursday. Farmer was arrested for vehicular burglary as well as a misdemeanor allegation of obstructing. Bail is set at $25,300 plus administrative fees.
