The Carson City Pop Warner Cheerleading squad will host a rummage sale this Saturday, Aug. 10. All proceeds go to National Competition in Florida.

The event will be at the Carson City Plaza Hotel, 801 South Carson Street. It runs from 8:00am to 3:00pm

Health inspections are made weekly by the Carson City Health and Human Services Environmental Health Division.

Sherry Duncan of Carson City holds a sign Friday in front of the Carson City Animal Services on Butti Way. She and others were demonstrating against practices at the shelter after a pet dog was recently euthanized when the owner said she couldn't pay the fees on time.

The shelter said it was within its rights, but should have allowed the woman, Jeraldine Archuleta, additional time needed to come up with the money.

Dozens of Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada members will showcase their acting, dance and performance art and painting skills Friday and Saturday in a community performance at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.

For the second year, the Diving Into the Arts Academy, sponsored by the BAC, has enrolled more than 100 Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada members to its summer arts program classes.

Driving a vehicle is very interesting and often an adventure in Carson City. I have found that when driving in our fair city, you must be on your toes at all times and be ready to react to whoever is approaching from any direction.

In my less-than-humble opinion, Carson City has more than its fair share of dumb, stupid, indifferent, inattentive, careless, reckless and rude drivers; and I seem to encounter many of them when driving around town.

An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday and faces a felony charge of intimidating a police officer following a hit and run investigation in Lyon County at the Bunny Ranch.

Francisco Avalos was arrested at 11:41 p.m. in the 2700 block of Mayflower Way. He was booked into jail following an incident in which he put his arms to the face of an officer in an intimidating manner. He also faces two misdemeanor charges including obstructing and being a minor consuming alcohol.

Members of a national earthquake simulation research network are at the University of Nevada, Reno today and tomorrow for Quake Summit 2013, an annual scientific meeting highlighting engineering research that reduces the impact of devastating earthquakes and tsunamis.

Carson City neighbors by the thousands gathered Tuesday evening at Mills Park for the 11th annual National Night Out.

The themes for the evening were community and neighborhood partnership and outreach. Judging by attendance, it was one of the largest gatherings thus far for the annual summer event, hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

"The turnout is one of the biggest I've seen," said DARE officer Lisa Davis, a coordinator of the event. "It says a lot about our citizens who have come together for a cause we all want: A safe and healthy community."

A euthanized dog and a complaint by the owner prompted Carson City city government Monday to reassess how it handles such circumstances and provide training for Animal Services personnel.

A vehicle collided with a gas structure in the area of a mobile home park at 4999 Highway 50 east in Carson City Monday afternoon. Initial reports are the accident caused a gas leak, according to dispatchers. The line was immediately secured, however, and firefighters will stand by until Southwest Gas arrives.

Carson City Fire Department and emergency personnel were dispatched at 4:17 p.m. to the accident. It is unknown at this time if there are injuries.

The second annual Fall Festival and Chili Cook Off will return to the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex on Saturday, September 14, 2013. The event will begin at 10:00 am and run until 4:00 pm. The Carson City Sheriff's Office plans on our first firing of the Carson City drug incinerator on August 22 at 1:30 in the afternoon at the city corporate yard. We are awaiting our final EPA authorization, but believe it will be delivered well before the planned date. Also now up and running is our public drug drop off box at the Front Desk Lobby of the Sheriff's Office sponsored directly by Partnership Carson City.
