Nevada Lieutenant Governor hosts Carson City Forum on May 29th

The Lieutenant Governor’s Office and the Office of Small Business Advocacy have announced a community forum focused on building a strong and vibrant community and engaging Carson City’s small business owners.

Governor Joe Lombardo and the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development last week approved two companies that will receive $35,321,637 in tax abatements. In return, these companies are projected to create 272 jobs in the next two years at an average hourly wage of $41.26.

"Citadels & Sanctuaries,” an evening of big-band jazz and poetry, will be on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Gina's Good Life Music & Lounge, inside the Carson Nugget, 507 N. Carson Street. The music is free, donations are requested.

On warm weekend days, the line of vehicles waiting to enter Sand Harbor State Park on Lake Tahoe’s east shore can back up several hundred cars deep, a conga line hoping to secure a parking spot. Within an hour of the park’s opening, the parking spaces are usually filled.

Igor Yuzov was born in Germany, raised in Ukraine and studied in Russia. He grew up in the former Soviet Union, where folk music was the norm and rock’n’roll was illegal. A rebellious streak led him to seek out the forbidden music. As soon as it became possible Igor left Russia for America with his “Folk’n’Roll” band Limpopo, and was personally greeted by Ronald Reagan. As an independent band, Red Elvises have produced 12 studio albums, two live albums, a live concert DVD, and a Greatest Hits compilation.

Lea grew up Amish, listening to country music and singing in church. Lance grew up playing in a rock band on the Texas club scene. The two met randomly in Nashville, TN and after their first songwriting session together, formed a duo. Marked by old school country/rock influences with Texas blues guitar, storytelling lyrics, and soothing harmonies, their collaborative genius is on fire with over 500 songs written. Their music has garnered airplay in the UK, Ireland, and in Music City – Nashville Tennessee.

Since 1995 the Wicked Tinkers have been playing ancient rhythms and forgotten sounds. Their music isn’t typical pipe band fare. They have reimagined the music for the twenty-first century. They aim to create a sound that is both “ancient and hauntingly familiar” with use of bagpipes, tribal drums, didgeridoos, a Bronze-Age Irish horn paired with a modern, rock-and-roll energy; their music will transport you back in time and get an audience of their feet with a raw, primal, and exciting sound.

Big Brother & The Holding Company are considered, along with the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane, the pioneers of the San Francisco Sound. They are recognized in the history of rock and roll as the band that launched the career of the great Janis Joplin. They are the band that recorded “Cheap Thrills”, which many consider to be the definitive record of Janis’s greatest singing. Rolling Stone Magazine listed “Cheap Thrills” as one of the greatest albums of all time, and Big Brother’s version of “Piece of My Heart” has been included in the Grammy Hall of Fame and the Library of Congress.

Jaydra Paoli (DOB: 6/1988) was reported missing by her family in Washington. Jaydra reportedly traveled to the Carson City area from Washington to attend a family funeral, around the second week of May.

Jaydra’s family is not sure if she made it to the Carson City area and was possibly headed to Placerville, California.

False Rhythms is a 5 piece rock/reggae band founded by two brothers; Dalton and Garrett Moore from the Washoe Tribe of Gardnerville, NV. False Rhythms takes inspiration from many musical backgrounds such as rock, metal, and funk, constantly blurring lines between genres.

For twenty years, Jose Cuella has been working in the kitchens of Carson City restaurants. Now, he has finally been able to open his own restaurant, Don Chepe Mexican Restaurant, along with his wife and five children.

The restaurant, located in the Carson Mall, took over the space after Francisco’s vacated.

Qiensave is a Cumbia Urbana group from Salinas California with roots stretching back to Michoacán, Mexico. They create high energy dance music that has fortunately blessed them with the opportunity to travel throughout California, Arizona, Mexico, and Colombia. Qiensave recently released their sophomore album “Mujer” via ONErpm Music, which includes singles produced by world-renowned and Latin Grammy-nominated musician Eric Canales and Platinum Producer Sam Pura.

Van Goat’s loud, heavy surf-rock contrasts with swing and jazz; country with groove-centered funk, making for a dynamic and lively listening experience. Nobody Cares is out now. “Back in the ’30s and ’40s, swing was a high-energy dance music that people would dance to ’til they passed out. These days, if a band starts up with the clarinets and the ride cymbals, you’ll probably start picturing your great grandpa doing the jitterbug.

Dennis Jone’s feet are firmly rooted in the past, yet his heart and soul are connected to the present. He writes songs that seamlessly blend the best of both worlds, presenting a unique and contemporary style of American rock and blues. And he isn’t afraid to tackle the controversial issues of today.
