CARSON CITY – Sen. Don Gustavson, R-Sparks, had written off his bill as dead when he learned this afternoon that Sen. Shirley Breeden, D-Las Vegas, was giving it a vote.
The senator was even more tickled when he realized his bill had the votes to pass out of committee.
The bill would let people ride motorcycles without helmets if they are 21 years of age or older, have had a motorcycle license for more than one year and have completed a safety course.

CARSON CITY — Senate Operations Committee Chairman David Parks has put the brakes on a collective bargaining bill that the sponsor said could save $2.3 billion for the state.
Sen. Michael Roberson, R-Las Vegas, who sponsored Senate Bill 343, said it would save local governments as much as $2.3 billion by amending the state’s collective bargaining law and ratcheting wages down to national averages.

CARSON CITY – The third of three campaign finance reform bills being pushed by Secretary of State Ross Miller this session passed out of an Assembly committee today, but an important provision regulating political action committees was removed.
Lawmakers say the deletion of a key provision of Assembly Bill 81 is only temporary.

A Carson City mother is in jail and faces felony child abuse and false imprisonment charges after she allegedly locked her child in a room and told authorities to come pick him up because she couldn't take care of the boy anymore.

A CareFlight helicopter was dispatched this afternoon after a woman apparently either fell or jumped out of a moving vehicle near Telegraph and Stewart streets in Carson City.

The accident happened around 3 this afternoon. The woman was said to be consciousness and was speaking with paramedics but the extent of her injuries are undetermined, authorities said.

As of 3:30 this afternoon CareFlight landed at an empty parking lot area of the Carson Nugget. She will be likely be transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

CARSON CITY –Assemblyman William Horne, D-Las Vegas, nudged his bill out of committee today, meaning the state could secure anywhere from $20 to $50 million from the casino industry.
Under Assembly Bill 219, if you lose or do not redeem a paper voucher printed from a slot machine, the state would sweep that money into its coffers as unclaimed property. Right now, casinos pay taxes on that money and count the remainder as revenue.
