The Clear Creek Bowmen, an archery organization in Carson City, held its fundraising archery shoot on Sunday, May 8 and took in about $1,000 in entry fees to fight cancer. Click to the PDF below for a complete list of winners.

Officials report that there were 67 shooters that participated in the fundraiser. The donation will be made to the Carson Advocates for Cancer Care.

This is a reminder that the Nevada Division of Forestry State Tree Nursery in Washoe Valley opened for the season on May 12, 2011.

The nursery is open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 3 pm Thursday through Saturday until October 15, 2011.
The nursery is designed to assist landowners by providing plant material suitable for conservation uses such as, but not limited to, windbreaks, soil erosion control, water conservation, and wildlife habitats.

An abalone poacher and restaurant owner have both been convicted and fined for engaging in the illegal sale of sport-caught abalone.

Two state agencies, the California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) and California State Parks (CSP), worked together with the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office to investigate the case and aggressively prosecute the crimes.

May 09: Sparks Marina in Sparks: 2,188 rainbow trout: 10.0 inches.
May 11: Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe: 3,960 rainbow trout: 10.4 inches.
May 11: Bilk Creek Reservoir in Humboldt County; 3,004 rainbow trout: 10.0 inches.
May 12: Boulder Reservoir in Northern Washoe County: 1,199 rainbow trout: 9.7 inches.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife is offering a two-day still water beginning spin fishing clinic on May 20 and 21. The Friday evening session will take place at the Verdi Elementary School from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
This session will cover rod and reel selection, casting, line selection, basic knots and rigging for lure, bait and fly fishing with spinning gear.

CARSON CITY — Since the governor did not like their last redistricting plan, Democrats are trying again with revisions to their redistricting maps.
Gov. Brian Sandoval earlier vetoed the Democratic plan for the boundaries of political districts, which must be redrawn every 10 years according to U.S. Census demographic data.

CARSON CITY – A proposal by Gov. Brian Sandoval to transfer the state share of operating the mental health courts to the counties was rejected by Democrat lawmakers today, creating another $6 million hole in the upcoming two-year budget that starts July 1.
The party-line vote by members of the Assembly Ways and Means and Senate Finance committees came after repeated testimony from advocates for the courts since the session began that they would close without continued state support because of fiscal problems facing the counties.

Attorney Day Williams, who represents Lue's mother Yer Her, said she is in Toledo where her son is in a crisis center, and the two will be flying home today.

According to Williams, Yer Her said that Carson City Sheriff's Deputy Jessica Rivera "ultimately pulled thing through for us. She coordinated the whole thing."
