My wife and I take two weeks each fall to hunt moose in the Yukon.
 We decided to travel 90 miles from home into the mountains and camp near a large swamp where I had called in two moose the year before. 
We left home on Wednesday and set up our camp.
We have a Toyota Tacoma 4 x 4 and a Four Wheel Camper loaded on.
It was a 5 minute walk to the swamp edge to allow quiet coming and going.
I called some on Wednesday night.

CARSON CITY – According to the latest report by the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), Las Vegas ranks fifth in the nation for questionable slip-and-fall claims despite being only the 30th largest city in the United States.

CARSON CITY – A state agency announced today it plans to consolidate three separate boards that oversee workforce development into one, resulting in $5 million more in federal funds directed annually to helping train job seekers to find employment.

The plan, “Moving Nevada Forward: A Plan For Excellence in Workforce Development,” was released by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR).

A combination of great weather and growing enthusiasm for cycling in Carson City is getting getting people out there on their bikes, and the ride with Carson City’s Leaders on May 7th was no exception.

This Mother’s Day, take mom on an historical train excursion via the Virginia and Truckee Railroad Sunday, May 13.
This special edition train ride from Carson City to Virginia City will provide mom with a long stem rose, Wild West history, storytelling, shopping and dining in Virginia City to go along with the spectacular scenery. The train features a 1953 ALCO heritage diesel locomotive leading 100 year-old Pullman coaches displaying the distinctive yellow and green of the V&T.

Jed Block will present a slideshow/talk on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at the Carson City Library. The title of the talk is "Now and Then: a Pictorial Analysis of Carson City Changes." Mr. Block has collected numerous pictures of Carson City's Carson Street and downtown area from earlier periods, such as the 1950s and 1960s, and compares them to recent photos of the same locations. These comparisons reveal a lot about the history of Carson City and the colorful people who shaped its future. The event is free and open to the public.

CARSON CITY – Assembly Speaker and 3rd Congressional District candidate John Oceguera, D-Las Vegas, declined today to say whether he supports the federal health care law now under review by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Oceguera, who is termed out of office in the Assembly, said it is premature to comment on the law given the fact that it is awaiting a decision on its constitutionality by the nation’s high court.

The Carson City Democratic Women's Club Meeting will be head Saturday May 12, at Grandma Hatties Restaurant. Lunch may be ordered off the menu between 11:15 Am and noon. Or persons may come at noon for just the program. At noon, the program begins with a presentation from Carson School Superintendent Richard Stokes and School Trustee Ron Swirczek on the "Five Year Strategic Plan for Extrordinary Schools Built By the Community of Carson City".

After several rounds of voting and months of friendly competition, six unique locations in Nevada have been identified as Nevada’s Treasures, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki announced today.

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval today announced he has signed an executive order providing reciprocity for military spouses seeking professional licensure in Nevada. The order is effective immediately.

CARSON CITY – The head of Nevada’s Department of Health and Human Services said today that as many as 150,000 more residents will be eligible for Medicaid coverage if the federal health care law is found constitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The celebration of Bike Week continued today with Muscle Power Carson City taking Mayor Bob Crowell, Sheriff Kenny Furlong, school Superintendent Richard Stokes, supervisors Shelly Aldean, Karen Abowd and Molly Walt and others on a bike ride around the west side of Carson City.

The group met at Telegraph Square and ventured out to Omsby Boulevard to Ash Canyon Road, over the Winnie Lane, returning to on Nevada Street.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested the following individuals for felony allegations over this weekend:

  • Tyrell Liddicoat, 24, a Carson City man, just prior to 10 p.m. Saturday. Liddicoat was arrested for attempted burglary at the 600 block of Sonoma Street. Bail has been set at $25,000.

The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company brings the Tony Award-winning Pajama Game to the Carson City Community Center weekends, May 11-20. It’s a nostalgic trip to the 1950’s - a time of innocent romances, a time of “company spirit," and a time when seven and a half cents actually bought something. CARSON CITY – The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles has approved Google’s license application to test autonomous vehicles on Nevada public roads.

It is the first license issued in the United States under new laws and regulations that put Nevada at the forefront of autonomous vehicle development.

In an unfortunate forfeit, the U10 CarsonNow.org Pink Diamonds brought their season record to 5-3 against the short-handed Carson Nugget/Gilson Auto Body Twisters. SPARKS — An impassioned motion to revoke credentials for more than 300 delegates who arrived after the meeting began. Heated questions about the presence of guests and whether they were voting. An angry motion to remove the convention chairman. And that was just for starters.

More than 1,600 county delegates today gathered at the Nevada Republican Party convention in Sparks in a meeting that fluctuated between contentiousness and relative calm as the hours rolled on.

On Saturday, May 12, Carson City Symphony's Strings in the Schools will hold a Latin Music Workshop and concert at Empire Elementary School, 1260 Monte Rosa Drive, Carson City. CARSON CITY – Establishing school choice for parents and ending social promotion for students are two top priorities in Gov. Brian Sandoval’s education reform agenda for the 2013 legislative session, an administration official said today.

Linking pay to performance and providing professional development to ensure students have the best possible classroom teachers is a third major priority, said Dale Erquiaga, senior adviser to Sandoval.

CARSON CITY – The amount employees earn per week showed signs of improvement in 2011, further indicating Nevada’s economy is in on the mend, said Bill Anderson, chief economist for Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR).

Wages in Nevada averaged $829 per week in 2011, which represents a gain of 1.3 percent compared to 2010′s $818 average weekly wage. Gains in each of the first three quarters of the year were only partially offset by some sluggishness in the final months of the year.

The new C-A-L Ranch Store on North Carson Street had its official grand opening today, with Mayor Bob Crowell helping to cut the ribbon.

A big crowd was on hand for the event, completely filling the parking lot of the old Safeway building.

The store features a huge variety of products, everything from guns to dresses to live poultry.

The store has 32 employees.

Officers arrested the following individuals for felony allegations in the same incident Wednesday evening:

  • Rick Ozzy North, 22, a Kings Beach resident, for possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with the intent to sell. Bail has been set at $10,000.
  • Timothy Patrick Lawson, 35, a Fresno, Calif. resident, for possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with the intent to sell. Bail has been set at $10,000.

As some of you already know, I have been charged and convicted by a jury of “Battery Causing Substantial Bodily Harm” on April 26th of 2012 in Carson City, NV. To get to that, we have to go back to the morning of March 25th of 2011.

Roadside stations for inspections and decontaminations of motorized boats and watercraft are officially open for the 2012 boating season at five locations entering the Lake Tahoe Basin.
“Boat inspections are critical to maintaining the health of Lake Tahoe and our local recreation-based economy,” said Ted Thayer, TRPA’s Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator. “Through the efforts of the Tahoe Resource Conservation District’s well-trained inspectors and other private and public partners committed to the Lake, we expect to have another successful season.”

In celebration of Historic Preservation Month, the Carson City Historic Resources Commission is holding their third annual Historic Preservation Scavenger Hunt from May 1-15, 2012.
