The body of Alysssa Byrne, missing since attending the SnowGlobe Music Festival and last seen by friends late New Year's Eve night or in Stateline early Jan. 1, was found this morning, Douglas County Sheriff's Office reports.

Byrne, 19, was found at 8:30 a.m. just outside the city limits of South Lake Tahoe. A utility worker discovered the remains just off Pioneer Trail, between Black Bart and Al Tahoe. The location is approximately one mile west of the Snow Globe Music Festival, authorities said.

Expanding on the basic concepts learned in the “Zentangle 101 class, you will learn7 more patterns. In addition, specific techniques for embellishing you tangles and taking them to the next level. This is another great class for beginner and intermediate aspiring jewelry “artists!” In this two-hour class, we will be creating a personal totem that can be worn as jewelry art or hung from a window or mirror. A totem is an object that signifies the qualities of it owner, making a statement through color, shape and feeling. Students learn fundamental skills in the various dance styles. Open Studio is for experienced students who have previously enrolled in at least one beginning pottery class and who want to use the studio for independent projects and skill development. An instructor is present to assist and answer questions, but no formal instruction or assignments will be given. Raku firings are scheduled when there is sufficient interest. Glazes and firing are included in tuition. Students must purchase their own clay.

Carson City's Board of Supervisors on Thursday gave a green light to two-lane traffic and parallel parking downtown on Carson Street.
The board voted 4-0 for a motion directing staff to solidify plans for micro-paving and re-striping the street, as well as finding financing, with prospects for action this summer.

A 31-year-old Washoe Valley woman has been arrested and faces a charge of murder in the death of her husband found inside a home Dec. 29, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office reports.

Shaunna Dodd was arrested Thursday by Washoe County Sheriff's Office Special Operations and Investigations Division. She was taken into custody without incident and was booked at the Washoe County Sheriff's Office Detention Facility for one count of Open Murder, authorities said. She has no bail. Her 37-year-old husband, Brad Dodd, died by gun fire, an autopsy performed Monday confirmed.

RENO, Nev. -The Reno-Sparks NAACP will swear in new leadership at its meeting on Thursday, Jan. 3. Longtime Reno attorney Jeffrey Blanck, who previously served as second vice-president and legal redress chair, will succeed Lonnie Feemster who is concluding the last of four non-consecutive two-year terms.

Blanck becomes the first non-African-American president in the branch's 66-year history.

"I am proud that our leadership and membership reflect the rich diversity of our community and our country," Blanck said.

January 16, 2013 will mark the 40 anniversary of Bonanza’s last episode that aired on NBC television. That episode #430 titled “The Hunter” was written and directed by Michael Landon who played Joe Cartwright on the show.

Bonanza had once been the number one television show in America for three years in the mid-1960’s; but the show had fallen out of favor with the viewing public, and at the time of its last broadcast, wasn’t even in the top 30.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, along with several agencies including the FBI, are actively searching for 19-year-old Alyssa Byrne of Petaluma, Calif., who was at South Lake Tahoe attending a music festival and was last seen by friends on the gaming floor of the Horizon Casino in Stateline between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 1.

First, let me say Happy New Year. This is the first part of January and this is also a good time for all of us (including me) to make some personal resolutions for the year 2013.
Most importantly, remember that if you do make any resolutions, be sure to follow through with what you resolve to do in this new year.
Resolutions are easy to make, but sometimes hard to accomplish.
I have a number of things I would like to accomplish this year, so without any further ado, here are my 2013 resolutions:

It’s turning out to be one of those winters that isn’t very mountain bike friendly. Freezing temperatures are keeping the roads icy in town, and there is bicycle-stopping deep snow in the nearby mountains. Thankfully there is another way to enjoy our local trails if you’re willing to let go of the handlebars and grab some poles.

In a letter highlighting the party’s recent difficulties with female voters, a group of Republican women has accused the state Senate’s Republican leader of sidelining the caucus’s only woman.

In the letter to Senate Minority Leader Michael Roberson dated Tuesday, the group of Republican women complained that Sen. Barbara Cegavske, the longest serving state senator, lost her plum seat on the Senate Finance Committee and did not receive a position in caucus leadership.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating a missing 19 year old female, Alyssa Byrne, who was attending the SnowGlobe music event in South Lake Tahoe on New Years Eve.

The circumstances to her disappearance are unknown at this time. Douglas County Search and Rescue has been activated to assist in an area search.

Alyssa Byrne, from Petaluma, Calif., is 5 foot 3 inches tall and 125 pounds. She has black hair and blue eyes, last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black yoga type pants, black snow boots and her hair was pulled back.

Watched this Cooper's Hawk grabbing breakfast on New Year's Day. He and his mate have been hunting south Carson City since around Thanksgiving.

UPDATE: 8:27 PM: The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the 21-year-old Reno woman reported missing since early New Year's day, Chantel Good, has been found unhurt. Still missing is a 19-year-old Petaluma woman, Alyssa Marie Byrne.

UPDATE 7:35PM: Reno Channel 2 KTVN reports that a 21-year-old Reno woman is missing as well as a 19-year-old Petaluma woman.

Chantel Good is described as 5 foot 4 inches and was last seen wearing brown boots, a flower-printed blue dress, a creme/beige pullover sweater, and a pink Aztec-design sweater. She was holding a brown satchel.
