CARSON CITY – A Carson City District judge today rejected an initiative petition proposing to create a new and higher rate of taxation for Nevada’s largest casinos, finding that the 200 word description of effect of the measure was misleading.

In rejecting the petition, Judge James Todd Russell said he did not believe he had the authority to rewrite the description himself.

CARSON CITY – Nevada’s polices of low taxes and small government ranked it 18^th among states in its ability to compete and grow its economy, according to a report released today by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC).

Nevada's gaming industry continues its climb out of the doldrums, posting a 5.72 percent increase in February over the same month a year ago.

For the fiscal year, gaming win is up 3.95 percent over the year before.

Nearly every area of the state saw strong growth in February, led by the Boulder Strip in Clark Country that saw a 22.94 percent. Washoe County saw an 8.14 percent increase in February, despite a 7.49 percent decline in North Lake Tahoe.
