Dr. George Baumgardner, curator of Natural History, will take visitors “behind the scenes” of Nevada’s plants, animals, specimens and other natural history collections on June 29 at the Nevada State Museum, 600 North Carson Street. What’s so special about these artifacts is that they are not normally on display and encourages visitors to become familiar with these rare collections. A sneak peak of the new Discovery Lab and other future developments of the natural history exhibit are also included during the tour.

On Wednesday night, Carson City Sheriff deputies arrested Saul Montez, 25, of Carson City, for felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor driving with suspended registration.

According to the arrest report, the suspect was stopped near the intersection of Edmonds and Gordon because the vehicle's registration was suspended.

CARSON CITY – The Governor’s Workforce Investment Board today unanimously approved a plan to consolidate two local boards in an effort to free up $5 million in federal funds to train the unemployed.

The move, which requires approval from the U.S. Department of Labor, is opposed by Workforce Connections, the Southern Nevada workforce investment board.

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval said today he plans to move forward with the consolidation of two local workforce investment boards even though several Southern Nevada officials testified in opposition to the plan at a public hearing on Monday.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies have arrested the following people based on felony allegations:

  • Georgann B. McPeters, 55, a Dayton woman, was transferred from Lyon County to the Carson City Detention Facility at 12:30 p.m. Monday. McPeters was transferred on a felony embezzlement warrant in her name. Bail has been set at $20,000.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office has released a notification of two registered sex offenders who have moved into the area. James Lawrence Varella and Troy David Heflin Jr. have both been convicted of a sex offense and are required to register with the Carson City Sheriff's Office, which they have complied with.
