Editors narrowed national nominations to the top 16; readers weighed in and the largest and most popular alpine lake in North America took home top honors by garnering more than 5,000 votes via Facebook and Twitter.

The Carson City Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee is seeking comment on the South Carson Street Redevelopment Area in advance of its next meeting on Aug. 6.

“The Redevelopment Authority and Citizens Committee want to know what the property owners and businesses within the area want to see redevelopment money spent on,” according to City Planning Director, Lee Plemel. “There isn’t much redevelopment money available right now, but we need to think long-term.”

Crowds flocked to the new I-580 freeway connecting Carson City and Reno this morning to bike, walk or run on the northbound lanes sans cars.

It was a big party on the Galena Creek Bridge, with hundreds stopping to look over the edge and take pictures.

The southbound lanes were opened to cars as well to experience this new roadway before it opens full traffic next month.

CARSON CITY – Nevada taxable sales jumped by double-digits in May, with consumers purchasing $3.7 billion in goods for a 10.4 percent increase over May 2011, the state Department of Taxation reported today.

Clark County taxable sales were up 10 percent, while Washoe County saw a 4.9 percent gain.

On Tuesday, July 31, there will be lane closures on Carson Street between Musser Street and 7th Street due to roadway maintenance.

There will be nightly lane closures on US 395 from the junction of US 50W (Spooner) to 1st Street in Minden, Sunday through Thursday, between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. There will be flagger controlled traffic.

There will be work at the following locations as a result of the Freeway Landscaping Project. Traffic control may be in effect.

  • North Carson Street, in the vicinity of the freeway overpass.

A 29-year-old woman from Salem, Oregon was arrested Wednesday afternoon by a Carson City Sheriff's deputy after finding her inside a casino naked from the waist down.

According to the arrest report, a deputy responded to the 5600 block of South Carson Street on a report of a woman inside the men's restroom not wearing pants. Casino security reported the woman removed her pants near the bar area and then entered the restroom.
