If you drive between Minden/Carson Valley and Carson City at all, your commute is about to get a little more complicated. A major repaving project of the whole road, all the way between the two towns, is about to start. It's needed badly, because in many spots the top layer from the last time they repaved it is starting to peel off, and the old asphalt from the time before that is showing. This repaving project has been a few years coming, and it''s about time.

For the first time in 10 years, states cut taxes more than they increased them, according to a preliminary report released last week by the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).
But voters should not draw hasty conclusions about what this means for states’ fiscal health. Most states continued to face substantial budget shortfalls during their 2011 legislative sessions, even though some states saw revenue collections increase.

NV Energy is presenting a $9.7 million rebate to the Carson City School District, which is taking advantage of Nevada’s abundant sunshine and using it to reduce operating costs with electricity generated by photovoltaic solar panels.
On Sept. 27, the district will receive the rebate through NV Energy’s SolarGenerations program for installing 1,949 kilowatts of solar energy at five schools, including Carson High School, the Fritsch and Seeliger elementary schools and the Eagle Valley and Carson middle schools.

Today, firefighters throughout the region continue to battle the Buckeye Fire, five miles west of Bridgeport. The Buckeye Fire started yesterday, September 25, 2011 around 11 a.m.
No structures have been lost and no injuries have been reported. Firefighters have been faced with steep terrain and changing wind conditions making it a difficult fire to contain. As of this morning the size of the fire is estimated to be approximately 1,200 acres. At the time of this release there is no estimate on when containment will occur. The investigation of the cause of the fire is still ongoing.

The annual 2011 Street Vibrations motorcycle event created a lot of traffic on northern Nevada roadways resulting in numerous service calls for troopers with the Nevada Highway Patrol. Additional troopers were placed on duty throughout the entire event in an effort to create a highly visible presence on our area’s highways and to handle the anticipated larger volume of calls for service.
