Carson City leaders addressed a packed banquet room at the Gold Dust West today to discuss the State of the City in a program put together by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.

Mayor Bob Crowell, Supervisor Shelly Aldean, Sheriff Kenny Furlong and School Board Chair Joanna Wilson each spoke to the crowd, and in general agreed that while these are challenging times, each made the case that things are going well and improving.

While Carson City residents were mourning the loss of B'Sghetti's restaurant this week, it appears that plans for a new eatery named Sassafras were coming together behind the scenes.

Sassafras will be a "chalkboard restaurant" with a changing menu focusing on fresh, local foods, according to a press release sent to Carson Now. The restaurant will be a partnership between Chef Anthong "Tony" Fish who currently operates "The Grill" at Mo and Sluggo's, and B'Sghetti's owner Scott Doerr, along with Carl Ceccarelli and Jayme Watts.
