Gaming profits for Carson City area casinos fell slightly by 0.19 percent in July, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
Statewide, Nevada’s nonrestricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $1,005,876,336 for July, a 16.95 percent increase compared to July 2011, when licensees reported a gaming win of $860,076,138. The Las Vegas Strip was the big taker for Nevada casinos, with a 27.51 percent gain over 2011 figures.

Multiple 911 calls came in — shots had been fired around the 1800 block of Long Street on Saturday night, around 11:15. When the deputies arrived on scene, they “made contact with a known gang member,” Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

UPDATE 8:30PM: Como Fire stands at 800 acres burned according to the 8:30 p.m. Sierra Front briefing. The Sierra Front Type III Incident Management Team has been ordered and will take over management of the fire at 6 a.m. on Monday. One percent of the fire has been contained with full containment by Tuesday. No structures are threatened.

UPDATE 5:40PM: Como Fire burning southeast of Dayton in Lyon County has doubled in size to about 800 acres, fire officials report.

UPDATE 4PM: The Como Fire burning southeast of Dayton continues to burn, consuming 400 acres with no estimate of containment or control, reports Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch. No structures are threatened. The fire is burning on BLM land and is spreading due to gusty winds. The fire is burning 2.5 miles south of Rawe Peak in the Pinenut Mountains. Air tankers, helicopters and hand crews have been assigned to the fire. Mark Struble with Sierra Front reports the fire was likely caused by a lightning strike from a thunderstorm on Saturday.

Here is the Carson City road construction report for the week of September 10-16. The following activity will occur on Carson Street between 8th Street and Musser Street due to maintenance:

- On September 10, 11, and 12 there will be lane closures in the northbound and southbound directions from 6:00 p.m. To 6:00 a.m. each day.

- On Thursday, September 13, Carson Street will be completely closed from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Detours will be marked.

Soroptimist International of Carson City seeks golfers, tee or green sponsors, and raffle prize donations for their 11th annual Stroke to Help Golf Tournament. The tournament is Saturday, September 29, at Eagle Valley Golf Course. Golfers may choose to play either the duffer-friendly East Course or the challenging links-style West Course. Play on both courses will be a 9 a.m. Shotgun start, with a Scramble format. Cost is $85 per player, and includes a Continental Breakfast, greens fee and cart, tee prizes, and a Barbecue lunch afterwards.

As I noted earlier this year, one of California’s two Free Fishing Days will be on Sept. 8. The other Free Fishing Day was way back on July 7. You can fish, all day, without a fishing license on Saturday.
You will be able to fish wherever you like in California, without the need for a fishing license.
