Carson City authorities arrested a man early this morning after leading deputies on a vehicle chase and then a brief foot pursuit that ended near a South Carson Street motel.
The suspect, said to be in his 20s with a shaved head, was carrying two handguns, and reportedly was dropping ammunition during the pursuit, authorities said. Additional weapons were found in the suspect's vehicle.

Beginning Wednesday, May 18 and ending on Sunday, May 22, Elaine and I took her 82-year-old Mom, Mary Bottoms, on a six-day tour of rural Nevada. It was her first-ever trip to all kinds of interesting places.

She has been a permanent resident of this state for the last 3.5 years, and prior to moving here from Greeley, Colo., she had visited us in Carson City a number of times. Those visits had been made by either train or bus and were always along the I-80 corridor from Wendover to Reno. That was all she had ever seen of the State of Nevada until this particular trip.

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval emerged from a meeting with Republican lawmakers today saying he is not willing to consider extending taxes set to sunset June 30 to provide more money for the two-year state budget.
Asked if there was a budget deal, Sandoval replied: “Not that I’m aware of.”

A man was taken off a RTC bus in Washoe Valley this morning by Nevada Highway Patrol after he allegedly caused a disturbance and displayed a knife.

The bus, headed from Reno to Carson City, stopped near the Bellevue Road overpass after a man on board caused a disturbance. NHP officers were called to the scene and took the man into custody. The suspect's name has not been released.

CARSON CITY – A bill implementing “performance-based” budgeting, including requirements for agencies to set benchmarks and goals and be held accountable for their spending priorities using quantifiable measurements, passed the Senate today and now heads to Gov. Brian Sandoval.
Assembly Bill 248, sponsored by Assemblywoman Debbie Smith, D-Sparks, and Assembly Speaker John Oceguera, D-Las Vegas, already passed the Assembly.
