CARSON CITY – The Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce is pushing for major changes to the state’s collective bargaining law for public sector employees.
In an amendment to another bill that already passed the Senate, the  chamber said the changes will alleviate budget concerns for local governments and save taxpayers money.

Carson City paramedics and Care Flight were called tonight to the Senator apartment building after an infant was reportedly unconscious.

The report came in at around 5:50 p.m., where the infant was reportedly unconscious and then vacillating between being conscious and unconscious, according to dispatch scanner traffic. Parents reported to dispatch that the infant fell on Wednesday. Care Flight landed in the area of Stewart, Roop and 5th streets at 6:08 p.m. and lifted at 6:19 p.m. to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

After a comprehensive investigation by detectives from the Reno Police Dept. in conjunction with detectives from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, all four defendants have been charged in the murder of Steven Gale, from the morning of May 9th on California Avenue. In addition they were charged with several other robberies and related crimes in both Carson City and Reno.

A Michigan man is in custody after allegedly drawing a knife, telling patrons in a Carson City bar that he was going to kill them and then leading authorities on a pursuit that ended early Thursday morning in Lyon County.

CARSON CITY – The Legislature’s two money committees today approved block grant funding for child welfare activities handled by Clark and Washoe counties, but delayed implementation of a proposed “incentive” element of the plan until 2014.
The requirement that a portion of the funds be made available to the two counties only after demonstrating improvement in the delivery of services was a point of contention in Gov. Brian Sandoval’s budget.

RENO — To meet the demands of the marketplace, the University of Nevada, Reno has combined disciplines and added a new major to its roster: computer science and engineering.

“This will make our students more marketable, more well-rounded and more likely to be incorporated and become productive in their new work environments,” Yaakov Varol, chair of the University of Nevada, Reno’s CSE department, said.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office seeks the public’s help in identifying the person(s) responsible for stealing approximately 4,000 pounds of copper wire from the Buckskin Mine. The theft was discovered on May 5, according to a press statement.

The mine is located in the northeast section of Douglas County, where it borders Lyon County. Access to the mine is made from the Lyon County side of the Pine Nut Mountains, through Mason Valley.

A man who had reportedly flashed a gun and a knife at patrons inside a Carson City bar led authorities on a chase early this morning into Lyon County. It ended with the suspect being tasered and detained at about 1:45 a.m.
